It has been opined that the beliefs of religious sects such as Pana Wave and Raëlism may be inspired by Zecharia Sitchin's
Earth Chronicles series.
Zecharia Sitchin (11 July 1920 - 9 October 2010) is known the world over for his exceptional works about the origin of the human race on Earth. He was an American author born in Azerbaijan, who held the view that the
Homo sapiens came into existence with the intervention of a race of extraterrestrial astronauts, who came from a planet known as
Nibiru. His famous
Earth Chronicles series very vehemently reflects his views, which according to him, were based on the ancient Sumerian mythology.
Sitchin's
Earth Chronicles, and the other companion volumes that he wrote became bestsellers the world over―millions of copies were sold all across the globe, with translations in as many as 25 different languages. This second volume of the series ponders on the mystery of immortality. It seeks to unravel the secrets of alien landings on Earth, stating that the Anunnaki gods may have had a spaceport in the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt, where they frequently landed―"Those Who from Heaven to Earth Came." He also puts forth a thought that the Pyramid of Giza may have been the Pharaoh's entrance to the world of the immortal gods, which he aimed to enter in his afterlife.

Sitchin begins this volume by saying that the Sinai spaceport was destroyed by nuclear weapons some 4,000 years ago. The book goes on to describe the violent beginnings of humanity on Earth, and how these power conflicts had begun ages before on another planet. The volume takes references from ancient texts, and attempts to reconstruct epic events like

The Lost Realms seeks to uncover the mysteries of ancient civilizations. The book describes how, in the 16th century, the Spaniards came to the New World in quest of the legendary City of Gold,

Most of his ideas have been completely dismissed by academics and scientists as pseudohistory and pseudoscience. Nevertheless, irrespective of whether they hold any truth or not, Sitchin's books are engaging reads which are sure to leave you dumbfounded.
