Most Poisonous Animal

Wondering which is the most poisonous animal in the world? Read the following article to find out more...

Trying to reach a consensus about the most poisonous animal in the world is a daunting task. You see, there are so many. Any animal falls under the category of 'poisonous' when it carries harmful chemicals called toxins in it. These might be stored in its glands or skin. Most of the time, poisonous animals have very bright colors. The purpose of which is to scare their predators away with an influx of brightly hued shades that stand out starkly in an otherwise somber surrounding. Bright yellows, blues, reds, oranges. If predators are not discouraged by their bright colors and approach them, then it can almost always prove to be fatal for the animals. This is because the degree of toxins in the poison is highly concentrated and even a small amount can prove to be lethal, as it directly affects their heart and lungs.
... On Land
It is very difficult to tag a name and zero in on the most poisonous animal on land. These are some of the contenders for this category and each of these can well be given the title.
Poison Dart Frog
This amphibian is found in the rain forests of South or Central America. Bright indigo in color, this 2 inch long frog stores its venom in its skin. The toxins are concentrated to such an extent that even a small amount is capable of killing several human beings or large mammals. By 'small amount', I mean about 2 micro grams (the amount of ink used to write a period on a page). This frog is called a poison dart frog because its poison was taken and used on arrow tips which were used for hunting. Which needless to say, always killed the enemy. A poison dart frog will kill any creature that approaches, touches or tries to eat it.
Taipan Snake
There are two types of Taipan snakes that are listed in the category of the most poisonous animals -- the 1. Inland Taipan Snake and the 2. Coastal Taipan Snake (Image given above). The Coastal Taipan is the third most poisonous snake in the world, while the Inland Taipen Snake is the most poisonous snake in the world. A single bite from the Inland Taipan can kill up to a hundred human adults. The venom is so neurotoxic that it can kill a human in less than 45 minutes. Its venom is about 400 times more toxic than that of the cobra, making it one of the most venomous snakes in the world.
The Brazilian Wandering Spider
The Brazilian wandering spider, also known as the Banana spider or the Phoneutria falls in this category as well. Its toxins are so lethal that a minuscule amount which equals 0.006 mg can kill a mouse. This spider is said to contain the most potent neurotoxic venom among all other spiders, that if administered can not only cause excruciating pain, but can also lead to Priapism (uncomfortable degrees of erections that end up lasting for many hours and can lead to impotence) in males. What adds to these spider's lethal powers is the fact that they hide during the daytime in populated areas and therefore the chances of bites are heightened.
... In the Water
Again, to make a choice in this category is quite difficult to undertake. But rest assured, all of these are really, really dangerous creatures of the sea.
Stonefish
This fish is found in the Pacific and Indian ocean. It stores its toxins in deadly spikes that are found on the surface of its body and hurts its predators really badly. Often described as 'The worst pain known to man', the stonefish administers a sting that can cause a human to go into shock, paralysis and can lead to the death of tissues. If immediate medical attention is not administered, then it can cause amputations and deaths in humans.
Box Jellyfish
The box jellyfish is a deadly creature that is found in the waters of Australia and Asia. The venom of the jellyfish is so poisonous that its toxins can attack the heart, skin cells and the nervous system of humans and animals. The venom, they say, is so powerful and causes such degrees of pain, that a human can go into shock and drown or suffer a heart attack and die. There are very rare cases in which a person who has suffered a jellyfish sting can survive if not treated promptly. So also people who have survived these stings say that the pain continues for weeks after the bite had been administered.
Marbled Cone Snail
These snails are found in a saltwater environment. One drop of the venom of the marbled cone snail is enough to kill about 20 humans. A bite will result in severe pain, numbness, tingling and swelling in the area of the bite. It may also lead to breathing failure, muscle paralysis and vision changes. There is no anti-venom available for this creature's bite. These were some of the animals that fall in the category of the world's most poisonous animal. Now that you know, you know exactly what to keep away from.
