Origami―we all are aware of this Japanese art of folding paper. With only a few simple steps, we can transform a simple piece of square paper into a wonderful work of art. No matter how old you may be, origami is an inexpensive, yet brilliant pastime. You can make different types of animals, birds, and objects, and place them around your home. So, to help you learn this skill, we thought of compiling 2 step-by-step tutorials for making an origami rabbit. So, what are you waiting for? For now, grab any square-shaped paper you can get your hands on, and let's get started.
  1. Valley Fold - Illustrated as the (blue dashed) line, when you make a valley fold, the paper forms a V shape.
  2. Mountain Fold - The paper looks like a mountain peak (^) when folded.
Illustration 1
Use a double-sided origami paper to create a more attractive rabbit. The side of paper you choose to keep facing down in the beginning of the steps will show on the outside, once the rabbit is complete.
STEP 1
First, we will make the kite base. To do so, flip the paper on its front and make a diagonal valley fold.
STEP 2
Unfold the paper and make 2 valley folds on either side of the first fold.
STEP 3
Fold the top flap of the paper down into a horizontal valley fold.
STEP 4
Taking the same flap, fold it in half, using another horizontal valley fold, and bring the paper slightly outside the edge. Make another valley fold in the center of the kite base with the pointed bottom edge of the paper. Quickly unfold the paper and you will see there is a crease in the center.
STEP 5
Now, where we have given you the blue-dashed line, use a pair of scissors to cut the paper.
STEP 6
After you have cut the paper, make a vertical valley fold as shown with the dashed lines.
STEP 7
As shown in the image, make a valley fold with the top flap of the model.
STEP 8
Flip the model over.
STEP 9
Go ahead and make the valley fold similar to the one we made in step 7.
STEP 10
As you erect the model, you can see that the basic structure is ready. The two flaps on either side of the model are the rabbit's ears. Use your fingers to open them.
STEP 11
And voilà! Your origami rabbit looks gorgeous and is complete.

Use a double-sided origami paper to create a more attractive rabbit. The side of paper you choose to keep facing down in the beginning of the steps will show on the outside, once the rabbit is complete.
STEP 1
Make a diagonal valley fold, press along the edge, and quickly unfold the paper.
STEP 2
Make another diagonal valley fold on the other side and unfold the paper.
STEP 3
Open the paper completely to reveal the creases. Now, you will make a horizontal valley fold and unfold the paper again.
STEP 4
From either side, push the paper inwards, making a valley fold, so that the top and bottom side of the paper turn into a triangle.
STEP 5
Once you have the triangle, make two valley folds with the top flaps into a diamond.
STEP 6
Working on the same diamond, make two more valley folds so that both points will touch each other in the center.
STEP 7
Make two valley folds and push the two flaps inside the diamond's pocket.
STEP 8
Flip your model over.
STEP 9
Make two valley folds to make a diamond.
STEP 10
Make a valley fold with the right flap of the diamond we just made, and rest it on top of the left side.
STEP 11
With the same flap, make a valley fold towards the center of the diamond so that the point comes in the middle.
STEP 12
Bring the right flap back to its original place.
STEP 13
Similar to the right flap, bring the left flap onto the right side.
STEP 14
Make a valley fold towards the center of the diamond so that the point comes in the middle.
STEP 15
Bring the left flap back to its original place.
STEP 16
Make two valley folds going outward with the right and left flaps.
STEP 17
Open both folds and push them down to make two triangles; those are the ears.
STEP 18
At the front, where the ears begin, there will be a hole; blow in it to inflate the rabbit's head.
STEP 19
With a pen, draw the rabbit's eyes, nose, mouth, and whiskers to complete the origami. Once you get the hang of making the rabbit, here's another article on origami swan we thought you might like to browse through. Use glitter pens or a permanent marker to draw the rabbit's face. The more origami rabbits you make, the larger your collection will be. Use paper with different measurements and colors to get different sizes of rabbits.
