Kung Pao is a part of Chinese food and the original version of this dish is made using chicken.   • Broccoli florets (rinsed, cut into 1-inch-wide pieces) - 1 pound
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
  • Deveined shrimp (shelled) - 1 pound (41 to 50 per pounds)
  • Fat-skimmed chicken broth - ¾ cup
  • Hot chili flakes - ½ teaspoon
  • Long-grain white rice - 1 ½ cups
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Minced fresh ginger - 1 tablespoon
  • Minced garlic - 2 teaspoons
  • White wine vinegar - 2 tablespoons
  • Sugar - 1 ½ teaspoons
  • Salt - ¼ teaspoon
  • Salad oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Salted peanuts (chopped, roasted) - ¼ cup
Procedure Take a 3 quart pan and add rice and water to it. Bring the mixture to boil and cook the rice until all the water is absorbed into it. It takes about 7 to 10 minutes. Then, lower the heat and cook the rice until it becomes tender to bite, for about 10 to 15 minutes. Transfer the rice to a bowl and keep it aside. Now, take a mixing bowl and combine soy sauce, vinegar, cornstarch, broth, sugar, salt and chili flakes. Mix these ingredients to form a smooth paste. Take a nonstick frying pan and add half cup of water and broccoli to it. Place the frying pan over high heat and bring the water to boil. Once the mixture comes to boil, reduce the heat to medium level and simmer the mixture. Cook until the broccoli becomes tender, and then drain the broccoli and keep it aside. Now, take a saucepan and add oil, ginger and garlic and place the saucepan over high heat. Once the garlic becomes brown, add shrimp and stir the mixture. Stir the mixture until the shrimp becomes opaque and then add cooked broccoli to it. Pour in the cornstarch mixture to the shrimp and keep stirring the mixture until it boils. Once the shrimp is cooked properly transfer, it to a bowl and sprinkle peanut over it. Serve this yummy dish with the cooked rice. Recipe #2 Ingredients

  • Cornstarch - 1 ½ teaspoons
  • Deveined large shrimp (shelled) - 1 pound
  • Fresh orange juice - ¼ cup
  • Green bell pepper (chopped) - ½
  • Large garlic cloves (minced) - 2
  • Minced fresh ginger - 1 ½ teaspoons
  • Red bell pepper (chopped) - ½
  • Red wine vinegar - 3 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce - 1 ½ tablespoons
  • Sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Small dried red chillies (halved) - 8
  • Salt - ½ teaspoon
  • Small onion (diced) - 1
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Roasted cashews - 1 cup
Procedure To prepare this, take a mixing bowl and combine soy sauce, cornstarch, orange juice, sugar and vinegar. Then, take a wok and heat oil in it over high heat. Add chillies and salt to the heated oil and fry them in the oil until the chillies become brown. Add ginger, garlic and diced onion to the fried chillies and stir the mixture for about 15 seconds. Then, add red and green pepper to the wok and cook the mixture until it becomes tender and crispy. After that, add shrimp to it and stir fry the mixture for about 5 minutes. Pour the sauce from the bowl and cook the mixture until the liquid thickens. In the end, add the roasted cashews and sesame oil and serve the yummy dish with cooked noodles or rice.
