How to Make Banana Chips
Are you wondering how to make banana chips at home? With simple culinary tips and correct ingredients, you can easily make fried and baked dry banana chips. Read on to find out.
- Raw bananas (peeled): 5
- Turmeric powder: ¼ tsp.
- Coconut or vegetable oil for deep frying
- Salt to taste
- Slotted spoon
- Absorbent cloth
- Chip Slicer (optional)
- First of all, cut the banana slices diagonally with the help of the chip slicer. In case you are using a regular kitchen knife, then cut the banana into uniformly thick diagonal slices (about ⅛-inch thickness).
- In a large sauce pan, take some iced salted water. To this, add the banana slices and turmeric powder. Let the slices remain in water for about 10 minutes.
- After the banana slices soak the salt and turmeric, drain the water completely. Next, place the slices on a clean kitchen cloth to remove the excess moisture.
- Thereafter, heat the coconut or vegetable oil in a thick skillet till it is hot enough. Then, add the banana slices in one layer and fry for about 2 minutes or till the chips appear a little crunchy.
- To make the chips more crispy, you can add a mixture of ¼ teaspoon salt and ½ teaspoon water to the oil in which the banana chips are being fried.
- Using a slotted spoon, take the chips out and place them on an absorbent tissue paper to drain the excess oil. Repeat the same steps for the remaining banana slices.
- Banana chips taste best if consumed immediately. But, you can also store them in an airtight container after they have cooled.
- Ripe bananas: 4
- Spray oil
- Fresh lemon juice
- Cooking sheet
- Chip slicer
- Preheat the oven to a temperature of about 150°F.
- Using the chip slicer, slice the bananas. Each slice should be thick, regular in size, and have a thickness of about ¼ inches.
- Next, take a flat cooking sheet and spray some oil on it to avoid sticking.
- Lay the banana slices over the sheet, making sure that they are not overcrowded. Else, you can leave some space between two slices so that they do not stick together while baking.
- After you are done with arranging the banana slices, sprinkle some fresh lemon juice. This will give a desirable color to the chips and prevent them from browning.
- Place the sheet with the banana slices in the oven and cook for about 1 hour. Then, check whether the banana slices have dehydrated completely or not.
- If required, bake the chips again for another half an hour. By this time, the chips will become completely dry and crispy.
- Remove the sheet from the oven and carefully lift the banana chips with a wooden spatula. Allow them to cool down before transferring in an airtight container.
