7 Dwarfs Names

If you have watched Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, you must be having good old memories about the dwarfs who provide shelter to Snow White. But do you remember what were the names of these seven dwarfs?

Snow White was a German fairy tale collected and published by Brothers Grimm, the duo of Jacob Grimm and Wilhelm Grimm, who are also known for popular collections like The Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Frog Prince, etc. Snow White was eventually adapted into a play (in 1912) and a Disney movie (in 1937), both of which were named Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Snow White Synopsis
Snow White is the story of princess Snow White who takes refuge in the forest when her stepmother, the wicked queen tries to kill her. In the dense forest, she comes across the seven dwarfs, who agree to keep her with them, but only if she is willing to do their daily chores. Eventually, the queen comes to know that Snow White is alive and stays with these dwarfs in the forest. She takes the garb of an ugly old woman and tempts Snow White into eating a poisonous apple, which puts her into deep sleep. Now the only thing that can wake her from this deep sleep is a kiss from her first true love. The rest of the story revolves around how the prince finds her in the glass-coffin in the forest and wakes her from the everlasting sleep.
7 Dwarfs - Names and Description
The seven dwarfs first featured in the German version of Snow White, Schneewittchen. In 1912, these dwarfs were named individually for the first time in a Broadway play titled 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'. Their names were Blick, Flick, Glick, Snick, Plick, Whick, and Quee. While the play made this fairy tale quite popular, its popularity reached new heights with the release of 1937 Disney movie by the same name. Their names in the movie though, were different from the names in the Broadway play. The details of these names, which were first used in the Disney movie, along with their description are given below.
Dopey
Youngest of the seven, Dopey is also the sweetest and perhaps silliest of them all. He is depicted as a bald and beardless dwarf, who wears an over-sized lime green cloak and a purple cap.
Grumpy
If Dopey is the sweetest, Grumpy is the grumpiest of them all. Interestingly though, he is kind towards Snow White. In the story, he wears a red cloak and sports the characteristic long white hair and beard.
Happy
As his name suggests, Happy is the happiest of the seven dwarfs. He is also the fattest among them. He is depicted wearing a brown cloak and yellow cap.
Doc
Doc is perhaps the smartest of them all; at least, that's what his depiction with an orange cloak and glasses hints at. Like Grumpy and Happy, even Doc sports the typical look.
Sneezy
Sneezy is always on the verge of sneezing, with his finger under his nose trying to stifle the sneeze. He is depicted wearing a yellowish brown cloak.
Bashful
Bashful is the most shy of the seven. He is most often depicted in purple cloak and magenta cap. Though he has a beard, it is relatively small as compared to that of other dwarfs.
Sleepy
Though not the laziest as such, Sleepy always has a sleepy look, with falling eyelids and continuous yawning. He is depicted wearing a brown cloak along with a green cap.
Except for Dopey and Bashful, all the other dwarfs sport long white hair and beard. That must have made you recall the good old times. If you haven't watched Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs movie yet, you should go ahead and watch it. It will definitely be one of the pleasant experiences of your life.
