Combination Skin and Acne

Acne on combination skin is difficult to manage, but can be cured with a regular skin care routine. This article lists some effective ways to get rid of acne on this skin type.

Normally, people believe that oily skin is most likely to suffer from acne, since acne is caused by excessive sebum production by the sebaceous glands. However, other skin types like dry or combination skin can suffer from acne in the form of blackheads, pimples, or pustules. This is because acne can be caused due to many other factors such as hormonal imbalance, genetic factors, chemicals in cosmetics, food allergies, and mental stress. Combination skin is a cross between oily and dry skin. It can be identified by an oily "T" zone. The "T" zone refers to the forehead, nose, and chin. These parts of your face are most likely to breakout due to the excess oil present there. Other areas of your face such as your cheeks and jaw line are dry in the case of combination skin. Looking at these characteristics, it can be said that dealing with this skin type can be very difficult since different parts of your face will require different treatments. Treatment: Use a Gel-based Cleanser Invest in a good quality gel-based cleanser which removes the excess oil from your skin. Using astringents for excessively oily skin helps too. Apply Facial Masks Facial masks that control the excess oil production should be applied on the "T" zone every week to prevent acne. Use a face mask that hydrates skin for the rest of your face. Face Masks for "T" Zone:
  1. Take half a cup of fresh strawberries and one tablespoon of yogurt. Mash them together to form a thick paste. Apply the mixture on your face, keep it on for twenty minutes and then wash off.
  2. Combine one tablespoon of green clay, one teaspoon apricot kernel oil, a few drops of palmarosa oil, and warm water to form a mixture. Apply it on your face and keep it on for fifteen minutes. When it's dry, wash with warm water and pat dry.
Face Masks for Dry Areas:
  1. For the dry areas on your skin, make a facial mask by combining one teaspoon each of honey and ground oatmeal. Apply it on your face, keep on for fifteen minutes and then wash with lukewarm water.
  2. Although fuller's earth is meant for oily skin, when combined with thick cream it helps in keeping dry skin hydrated. Simply combine one tablespoon each of fuller's earth and cream and apply it on the dry areas of your face. Leave it on for about half an hour and then wash off with cold water.
Use Oil Blotting Sheets/Pore Strips For cleaning pores and getting rid of blackheads, pore strips should be applied on the problem area. To get rid of the excess oil, oil blotting sheets should be used. Keep Your Skin Moisturized This skin type should be kept well moisturized. Use "oil-free" lotions or moisturizers. Application of a mild toner on oily areas, prior to application of a moisturizer, will help in evening out your skin. Apply Topical Creams Regular application of skin creams, especially those which contain benzoyl peroxide, help in eliminating any bacteria present on your skin which can otherwise cause acne to develop. Such creams should be applied on the affected skin areas twice a day. Treating acne on combination skin is harder compared to any other skin type. But by taking a few measures such as maintaining a cleaning, toning, and moisturizing routine, using natural or herbal cosmetics, eating an oil-free diet, and applying natural homemade face masks, you can successfully get rid of acne.
