Pets come in all shapes and sizes, proving to be quite a varied choice for those who want to buy them. A lot of people bank on a pet's cuteness factor, or how powerful they look, what color they come in, or how miniature in size they are, while choosing. Everyone's tastes are different, much like that of the breeds themselves. Rabbits are a delicate breed, where taking care of them in any size and kind requires patience and utmost care. The lifespan of a rabbit changes from one breed to the next, proving to be quite the companion for years to come. Smallest Rabbit Breeds Rabbits are a funny breed of animals, and like other pets, have their own set of idiosyncratic mannerisms. A lot of people prefer buying small breeds because they are easier to keep at home and care for. Larger breeds tend to be messy and lethargic most of the time, where their smaller counterparts are more active and easier to deal with.
Mini Rex
A mini rex is not only cuddlesome, but extremely clever when it comes to being potty trained. They don't eat much, being as small as they are, and are good with kids. They aren't overly aggressive like how some rabbits usually turn out to be, and can live for about 7 years if taken care of properly. It comes in a myriad of colors and weighs in only at 3 - 4 pounds. Their coats are short and fluffy, making it a rabbit that can be easily groomed.
Jersey Wooly
These extremely furry rabbits are a treat for sore eyes. They look amusing with their long silky fur and pinched faces. Hair can grow so long that the bunny's feet can actually disappear from view. This breed was made by mating together a French angora and a Netherland dwarf rabbit. Grooming on a four-times-a-week basis is important to keep its fur tangle free and soft. They live up to 7 years, and in some cases even 10, weighing in at about 3 - 4 pounds.
Britannia Petite
These rabbits are commonly white in color with bright red eyes. Their ears will often have pink lining the insides, and are quite a fragile breed to own. It is an old breed titled under 'Polish' in the UK, and are a feisty breed. They can live up to 6 years, and weigh in 2.5 pounds or less.
Mini Lop
If this little guy ever got you riled up, one look at its droopy ears and cherubic face will make your insides melt, completely forgetting why you were mad at it in the first place. The colors that this mini bunny comes in are blue seal, seal point, beige and white and chocolaty brown. They live for about 5 - 7 years, and weigh in at approx. 5 - 6 pounds.
Netherland Dwarf
With its cute buttoned nose, stubby ears and shiny bright black eyes, the Netherland dwarf wins brownie points for major cuteness. These rabbits can live up to 6 years and weigh in at 2 and a half pounds. Colors that this little guy comes in are steel, agouti, Himalayan, shaded, orange, tan pattern and tortoiseshell.
Pygmy
This kind of rabbits are known for their constant rabbit calls, where they usually live outdoors in the wild using burrows for homes. This rabbit is by far the tiniest breed to have walked the planet, making its status as a wild rabbit questionable. They weigh in at hardly a pound, and usually come in colors of gray and dark brown. Female pygmies are slightly larger than the males, where these bunnies can live up to 3 - 5 years.
Holland Hop
These rabbits are quite fluffed up, making them look slightly bigger than they actually are. They have droopy ears much like that of the mini lop, sporting deep-set black eyes and a flattened head. They come in varied colors of blue, black, lilac and chocolate. They weigh in at roughly 2 - 4 pounds, and live up to 6 - 7 years. These small rabbits have mostly been bred from using two different kinds of breeds to produce a whole new rabbit kind. It is quite fascinating to read about how people, decades ago, thought up a way of making two completely different breeds mate, to bring on a brand new kind.
