Fun Ideas for a Family Weekend

It is a common place scenario in families nowadays, where the only time everybody gets to see each other is on Sundays! How do you manage to keep up with each others lives? Here are some fun ideas to plan a family weekend that will help you rejuvenate the bond!

It is very important in today's world to stay connected to the people in your life - for it is so easy to lose contact in the fast-paced lives we live every single day! With the in-time and out-time of each family member being different, it is often on Twitter and Facebook that you come to know about what's happening in each others' lives! One good way to stay in touch with everyone and keep the family bond strong and alive is to plan a family weekend. Fun Family Weekend Ideas Bon Appetite! Making a trip to the kitchen, to cook rather than to eat, could be a fun way to spend a lazy afternoon indoors! Everybody in the family could get together and cook a meal. It could be something really simple like pasta and garlic toast, to something as elaborate as a five-course meal. If everybody in the family is fond of a particular kind of food - like cakes, cookies, sandwiches and the likes - you could choose to make it. Alternatively you could pick on something you have never tried to make at home. It could be anything from chocolate souffle to pizza to some world cuisine dish. Cooking together will give you a lot of opportunity to actually work together on something. Enjoying the meal together will also be an activity full of surprises... depending on whether the meal turned out too good, or too bad to be true! Home Improvement Weekends could be the perfect days to set about improving the look of your house. Home improvement does need more than a single pair of hands, so you could all come together and work on all the rooms one by one. You could start with the drawing room, since you all spend time in it; so the best thing would be to get everybody's inputs and ideas on it and try to incorporate as many of them as you can. If there is anybody in the family who is fond of carpentry, you could set about making a piece of furniture together - like a center-table, a bookshelf, or if you really wanna be that ambitious, then maybe a bay window! If carpentry is not really your thing, you could probably paint your house. If that is too big a task, you could all paint one wall together and transform it into a painting! It would completely transform the look of the drawing room. Memories Immortalized Making a family scrapbook is one of the perfect options for a lazy Sunday afternoon. Everyone of us - each and every single one of us - has an artist in him/herself, and it is good to let that artist out once in a while. You could compile all pictures together and make a scrapbook full of memories. Inside jokes, funny things you said on different occasions when the pictures were clicked, could go in along with the pictures. Bills of all kinds - dinner bills, hotel bills, could be stapled onto relevant pages as souvenirs. You could draw, sketch, paint, add stickers and make it into a personalized photo album. A similar idea could be to make a video of the family - something like 'A Day In The (FAMILY-NAME) Household'. This could indeed turn into an amazing and fun-filled day activity. You could document every hour of the day and shoot everybody going about doing all their daily tasks. The only difference is, everyone is bound to be clumsy, since they are on 'candid camera'! Clean and Green Gardening is not technically an 'indoor' activity, but it is still closely related to your house. You could set about cleaning your garden. Mow the lawn, prune the plants, add fertilizers and maybe pluck the flowers and use them to decorate the house. There is something like therapy in getting your hands dirty with mud and soil while gardening - I speak from personal experience! And of course your kids are going to love it! There are some things we never grow out of - playing in the mud is probably one of them. You may feel foolish as you read this right now; but you already know the only way to find out even before I tell you! Garage Sale This is probably one of the best ways to clear unwanted things in the house! It is something everyone can participate in. You can ask each family member to come forward with things they no longer need. You could categorize them under different groups. You could get your kids to make banners and flyers to put up so that your neighbors, relatives and friends know about the sale. In the end you could pool the money together, divide it among yourselves, and then everyone could buy something for him/herself out of the money earned - it would stay as a memory of the activity. Bon Voyage! This is probably one of the most common ideas of a fun-filled family weekend - to plan a trip to somewhere. You could go camping, fishing, trekking, mountaineering, cycling or even scuba-diving! These are some of the most common ideas, however. If you want to avoid common family getaways and do something different, you could go somewhere that is not common. You could make a road trip to a near-by field or hill or grassland. You could even plan for a one-night trip and actually pack a tent, build a crackling fire, cook food, and sleep under a star-lit sky. If you or your children are fond of star-gazing, you could take a telescope along as well. Other fun activities you could engage in on such trips are truth or dare, dumb charades, name-place-animal-thing, or something as simple and yet exciting as telling ghost stories! Social Work Social work could include anything from donating old books to a library, to paying a visit to an orphanage and offering to work with the kids for the weekend. If your children are really young, then engaging in social work could be a great way to teach them about responsibility and sharing. You could combine the idea of a garage sale with social work - all the money earned out of the sale could go to an orphanage, or an old-age home or even an animal pound. You could offer your old clothes, books and toys or you could offer your services. Makeover For All This is something I would personally love to do - get everyone in the family a complete makeover! There are countless things you could do about your looks - get a hair-cut, color your hair, change your wardrobe to something you have never tried before, and just totally transform yourself into someone new! At some point of time we all yearn for a change in the way we look - and a major one too! But sometimes we lack the urge or motivation to actually go out there and do just that. It's never too late to get a makeover - there is no age-limit for it! The makeover could be followed by a movie, or by lunch/dinner; after all you would be eager to go flaunt your new look once you have got it, won't you? Life gets a little too hard on us sometimes, and we tend to lose touch with ourselves and our family even though we don't mean to! Family weekends are the best way to re-establish the connect. I am sure with so many options in front of you, you are now looking forward to the coming weekend! Have a great weekend!
