Choose the Right Lace
When choosing laces for your Converse shoes, select a light-colored lace for a dark-colored shoe and vice versa. For instance, if you got a black pair, go for white or any other light-colored lace.
The easiest and cheapest way to customize your Converse sneakers is to try out some unique shoelace designs. Simply lacing your shoes in an altogether different way from the regular crisscross bars would make them stand out in a crowd, and give them a custom feel. How to Lace Converse
METHOD 1: Bars
  • The first most popular way of tying laces is the bar pattern; this can be easily achieved by either using a single-colored lace or a double-colored one.
  • Insert the two ends A and B into the bottom pair of eyelets; this would form the first bar. Then, form a second bar by retrieving the B end from the second eyelet and inserting it in the eyelet parallel to it.
  • From here on, follow a skip-one-and-insert pattern for both the ends. Take end A from the first eyelet on the left, skip the second, and insert it in the third from beneath. Do the same for the B end; take it from its last position on the left (second), skip one on the same side, and insert it into the next.
METHOD 2: Ladder
  • This variation would make your Converse lacing look like a ladder. Start by inserting the two ends A and B into the bottom pair of eyelets from beneath as shown.
  • Pull out both ends, and insert them in the consecutive pair of eyelets (second from bottom) as shown in the illustration. Now retrieve the A end from beneath, and do the same for the B end; this will form two vertical loops spanning two eyelets from the bottom.
  • Now take each end and weave it in the loop formed on the opposite side. Refer to the illustration to make thing more clear. Repeat the same procedure for the successive loops.
METHOD 3: Chain
  • This one's pretty simple and can be achieved very quickly without much efforts. Begin by inserting the two ends A and B through the bottom pair of eyelets from beneath.
  • Retrieve the two ends and pass them through each other to form a lock. Now take both the ends and insert them through the consecutive pair of eyelets (second from bottom) as shown in the illustration.
  • Repeat the same procedure till the last set of eyelets.
METHOD 4: Z-shaped
  • Quite similar to bars, however, you'll see the lace forming the alphabet 'Z' on its way. You start by passing the two ends A and B through the bottom set of eyelets from above in order to form a bar.
  • Now take end A from beneath and pass it diagonally through the third eyelet on the right. Take B and pass it through the next eyelet (second from bottom), and then through the eyelet parallel to it; this would form the second bar.
  • Remember that you have to make a bar from each end that protrudes from the eyelets on the right side, and diagonal lines from the ends protruding through the left set. Follow this pattern till the end, and your Z-shaped lacing is done.
METHOD 5: Checkered
  • This in fact is a very creative way to lace your Converse shoes. To achieve this lacing pattern, you're gonna need two laces of two different colors, preferably white and black or white and red.
  • Use one lace and start by forming a simple bar-patterned lacing as shown in the illustration. When you reach the end, tie both the ends of the first lace from beneath.
  • Now use the second lace and start interweaving the first lace beginning from the bottom left, going straight up and ending at the bottom right. You can then tuck the loose ends in the bottom pair of eyelets or knot them underneath. This type of lacing pattern doesn't enable you to tie the shoe. Wear it like a slip-on.
METHOD 6: 9X
  • The name for this pattern comes from the number of X's formed in the lace formation, which is a total of 9. Begin by inserting the two ends A and B into the bottom pair of eyelets from beneath. Now form the first X by crossing both the ends and inserting them in the fourth pair of eyelets.
  • Next, pass both the ends vertically from the consecutive set of eyelets from beneath as shown in step two of the illustration. Now form the second X by crossing both the ends and passing them through the second pair of eyelets (second from bottom).
  • The next and the final step; pass the protruding ends vertically through the consecutive pair of eyelets from beneath (like in step 2). Finally, form the last X by crossing both the ends and passing them through the topmost set of eyelets. So, 3 X's cross each other 3 times making them 9 X's.
METHOD 7: Double Crisscross
  • This is almost like the default lacing pattern of Converse; however, this version uses two colors to make it look even better.
  • Begin tying the first lace in a regular crisscross pattern from the bottom pair of eyelets. Remember to do this by skipping alternate pairs of eyelets on the way. Now, insert the second lace in the first skipped pair at the bottom and follow the same crisscross pattern for this one too.
  • Bingo! Your dual-colored crisscross pattern is ready. Flaunt this unique style among your friends.
METHOD 8: Zipper
  • Start from the top-left eyelet and proceed looping every diagonal eyelet. Do this till you reach the bottom-right eyelet of the shoe.
  • Now, loop the bottom-right eyelet and pass the end through the eyelet parallel to it. Next, start from this eyelet and go on looping diagonally till the top as you did previously (refer to the illustration).
  • When you're at the top, wear the shoe, tie the laces, and you're all set to go.
If you wish to use two-colored laces for any of the single-colored lace patterns, do so by tying both the laces in the center.
