Christmas Vacation Destinations

Already choosing your Christmas vacation destinations for this year? See whether you have considered these hot options.

Christmas is a time for celebration, and what better way of celebrating than traveling with people you love the most? Christmas is a wonderful time to go for a vacation, simply because there's nothing better than spending it with loved ones and secondly because there's no hassle of taking leave. Moreover, people also get fat annual bonus before the season comes in, thereby reducing the financial strain. Thus, traveling during becomes easier. But, where does one go? Cutting right to the chase now, here are some of the hot (or do I mean cold?) destinations that you could consider. The choice is based on the activities you can do here, and they are in no particular order. In America San Diego San Diego in California has some of the best vacation options for you if you are planning a Christmas vacation. This coast is where the very popular gray whales migrate from each year, on their annual trip from the Bering Sea to Baja California. Come December and you will find them in crowds of as many as 25,000 all in the sea off the San Diego coast. This is also the time when some of the greatest whale watching tours of the world are conducted here. You can board a catamaran from the shore, and you will be driven mid-ocean for a day, two days, or even up to a fortnight if you wish. The best festivities will be present right on board for you. And who will come to the party? Expect some porpoises, dolphins, sharks, turtles, exotic birds whose names you will never remember, and of course, a gray whale or two! Lake Tahoe The next best thing that happens in December is the start of the skiing season in most places. For the winter sports aficionados, this could be one of the greatest things to happen all year. One of the best destinations for a spot of winter skiing is Lake Tahoe in Nevada. The lake does freeze over, and the ski resorts open up to welcome skiers from all around the world. The snow is pristine and welcoming to the skiers. Even if you know nothing about skiing, you can enjoy the beautiful sights the wintry nature has to offer, and you can binge on the special lunches laid out for the snow-revelers, which typically consists of smoked or grilled salmon, lobster bisques and chocolate tortes that climb up to five layers! Orlando Orlando in Florida is one of the most traveled tourist destinations in the US - all throughout the year. And it is the place to go if you are not looking for skiing throughout the Christmas season. Orlando has a host of things to do. You can get a bit of sun all over here, even if it is December. Three huge amusement parks will keep you engaged in Orlando - the world famous Walt Disney World Resort, the SeaWorld Orlando and the Universal Orlando Resort. You will also find the buildings of Disney-MGM Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom and the Typhoon Lagoon within the Walt Disney World Resort. If you want to check out some of the best shopping destinations, you can head to The Florida Mall or The Mall of Millennia. Orlando also boasts of The World's Largest McDonald's PlayPlace. Simply put, this is one Christmas vacation destination where you should pack your bags to, if you are taking your kids along. Hershey If you want to be in the heart of Christmas festivities, and still be away from your own home, then Hershey in Pennsylvania would be your best bet. The town named after a brand of chocolate can be nothing else but sweet (for those of you interested in factoids, Hershey was originally Derry Church, but the immense popularity of Hershey's Chocolate found here was the reason of its rechristening into Hershey!). Here you can visit Hershey's Chocolate Land, and take a chocolate tour during the heart of the Christmas season. The whole thing is a treat to watch, bedecked with some of the best light display you might ever have seen. Hersheypark, the recreation amusement park owned by the Hershey chocolate company has no fewer than a million lights. In addition, you will find several churches where you can attend masses, and gourmet restaurants. Woodstock, Vermont Woodstock is a popular destination for tourists all throughout the year, but, it wears a completely different look during Christmas, courtesy its annual Wassail Weekend. The highlight of the festival is the Wassail Weekend Parade featuring more than 50 horseback riders, dressed in festival colors. You can also enjoy some other free benefits such as horse tours, concerts, sleigh rides, etc. The town is also famous for the 1890 farmhouse, and you can get admission for as low as $12. Woodstock promises a lot of fun and entertainment this year, and if you do not want to miss out on action, then ensure that you are there on the 9th of December. Disneyland, Anaheim, California Visiting Disneyland is every child's dream and what better way to celebrate the Christmas season! Even if you have taken your kids before to Disneyland, taking them during Christmas is a completely new experience of its own. The place is lit up and decorated with all kinds of decorations. It's so enthralling to see the sixty foot tall Christmas tree, the fantasy parade, the grand fireworks and a lot more. The only problem is that Disneyland is extremely crowded during Christmastime, however, if you don't mind that, it is worth the visit. Across the Globe We all know there are scores of places to visit across the globe. The platter and variety is so large, that pinpointing some is not an easy task. Nevertheless, let's have a look at some places you can visit during this holiday season. Australia While it's winter over here, it's summer over there. If you want your Christmas to be warm and lively, head straight to Sydney where Bondi and Manly play perfect hosts to more than 50,000 tourists. If you are a beach person, then you would certainly relish the tan, accompanied by awesome food and loads of beer. Cuba Are you game for some Cuban cigars and mojitos? Like Australia, Cuba too promises a warm, sunny Christmas, complemented by the salsa on its Sandy beaches. While in Cuba, ensure that Havana and Jardines del Rey are up there on your itinerary. Edinburgh, Scotland Got a lot of time on your hands ? Well, then you should not think twice before booking your tickets to Edinburgh this Christmas season. Known all-over as one of the best vacation spots for Christmas, the festivities here last for more than a month. Carry loads of cash with you as the German Christmas Market has several tempting things you can't afford to miss. Ireland For those who want to spend their vacations lazing in a cottage, Ireland can be a fitting host. Book a cottage, and spend quality time with your loved ones sipping wine in the beautiful countryside. The midnight mass is humanity soaked in spirituality and the carol is as good as it can get. Goa, India Goa is a place known for its pristine beaches, chilled out attitude, party life and good food. Moreover, this is your chance to visit India. Christmas is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm in Goa. Streets are bustling with energy, with all kinds of special foods being sold in tiny stalls. You can attend the elaborate parties held on Goa's beaches. There are special cruises as well, which you can enjoy. Montreal, Canada Patinoire du Bassin Bonsecours in Old Montreal is great if you are into ice-skating, but it will not disappoint people seeking Christmas-themed activities. The lighting of Place Ville-Marie's Christmas tree gives a gracious start to the festival season marked by carols, parades, and lots of shopping. These were some of the Christmas vacation spots. Although, the list is not exhaustive and we might have inadvertently missed out on some great vacations spots, you are always welcome to suggest places you feel can be wonderfully awesome to visit this Christmas season.
