Movies that Make you Think

There are certain movies made with such strong concepts, that these movies make you really think. Here, is a list of the best made movies that make you think.

Mostly movies are produced with keeping in mind a target audience, and how well they will do in the box office. However, there are some film-makers who always come up with absolutely new concepts, and make the movie not just for the sake of making it. Many great film-makers like Akira Kurosawa, Christopher Nolan and Gaspar Noé have made some stunning movies. Such movies are not just visually good, but also have a deep impact on our minds, that lasts for long. Such movies can be quite disturbing sometimes. Rashômon (1950) This film is a masterpiece which is made by Akira Kurosawa. This movie is placed in ancient Japan, and is about a woman who is raped and her husband murdered by a bandit. The story told by the wife and bandit are completely different, hence a psychic is called to know the story by the murdered man, who tells another different story. Then a woodcutter who says he witnessed the whole crime scene, is asked to tell the story, who gives yet another version. A must watch. The Matrix (trilogy) (1999 & 2003) Among the Matrix movie series, only the first part actually makes you think. Other movies then become quite repetitive. The movie starring Keanu Reeves, is about a computer hacker who learns from mysterious rebels, the true nature of his identity and the world around him. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) This is not a visually disturbing movie, but the whole movie has these up and down phases, where in the 'up' phases the lead character will be running around and 'down' phases, where there will be silent anticipation moments which make you wonder what is going to happen next. This movie is one of the best performances of Jim Carrey as Joel Barish, a heartbroken person who wants to go through a process of eliminating memories of his ex-girlfriend, but once the process starts, he tries desperately in his mind to protect those memories. The Kite Runner (2007) The movie is based on a book by the same title written by Khaled Hosseini. The movie tells the story of two boys, a Pashtun boy called Amir and another Hazara boy called Hassan, who share a deep friendship. But, how incidents change their relationship and they get separated due to the war of Afghanistan. The Truman Show (1998) I didn't know that there will be two Jim Carrey movies, making to this top 10 list, because he is more of a comedy actor. Well, anyway, this movie is about a guy who discovers that his whole life is actually a reality TV show called 'The Truman Show'. Gattaca (1997) Many movies and books are based on a concept similar to Gattaca. This sci-fi movie is based in future, where in society people's jobs are determined by their genes. The movie portrays the struggle of a genetically inferior man to pursue his lifelong dream of space travel. This movie makes you think, that humans are capable of achieving whatever they dream of. Irréversible (2002) This is one of the most disturbing movie ever made, so my advice to you is to avoid watching it, if you are uncomfortable with its plot line and the movie reviews. The movie is about a rape of a woman, which has never been filmed in the way this movie shows. However, the outstanding thing about this movie is that it is shot in a reverse manner, first the rape happens, then the incidents before the rape. The movie is shot in reverse manner, but says that the crime itself is irreversible. Nuit et brouillard (1955) This is actually a documentary movie of 32 minutes, which is another masterpiece among movies that makes you think and even disturbs. This black and white movie shows the history of Nazi German's death camps and how the Jews were tortured. Memento (2000) This is one of the must see movies of all time and one of the best mystery movies made, which stars Guy Pearce as Leonard. Leonard, is an ex-insurance investigator who can no longer build new memories, but the last memory he has is finding the murder of his wife. The Hurt Locker (2008) This movie which won 6 Oscars, is about a group of an elite Army bomb squat unit who must come together in a city, where every object can be a deathly bomb and ever person a potential enemy.
