How to Pack for a Vacation
Finally heading to the dream vacation you've been planning for months? Here are some quick pointers on how to pack for the same.
- Make a note of the weather and the general forecast for the period of your stay. The last thing you want is that you land up at your destination and find that you're not suitably equipped for the climate.
- Make and maintain an extensive list of things that you are going to pack and have already packed. Being organized and maintaining a checklist will save you a lot of trouble later.
- Pack a suitable outfit for each day of your stay. If you are going to attend a formal function, make sure you have the appropriate clothes for the occasion. Pack some extra articles in case some clothes get damaged. Foresight is the key when you're packing for a vacation. Carrying an extra set of socks and underwear will also solve a lot of unwanted problems.
- Pick an appropriate pair of shoes for the trip. It's safer to have an extra pair, but no more as they consume a lot of space. Pack your shoes in an appropriate plastic or paper bag.
- Women often have a tendency to pack too many things. Keep it simple as far as your make-up and extra bags or accessories are concerned. Do not overload your packing space with unnecessary items. Just pack the bare essentials that you will be requiring.
- It's very important that you keep your toiletries in an easily accessible location. There's nothing worse than unpacking your entire suitcase and foraging through all the belongings in search of a roll of toilet paper at the time of an emergency. Keep an adequate stock of toilet paper as a precaution. Ensuring that your toiletries are kept waterproof is highly advisable.
- Also ensure that all your electronic items (cell phone, digital camera, iPod, etc.) are fully charged and do not forget to carry their chargers as well.
- You can never accurately predict the availability of medicines wherever you're heading. Carry all the medicines that you may need and also carry a copy of the prescriptions. Always keep a first-aid kit with you.
- Make a detailed list of all the important contact numbers of the area where you will be staying. If you're visiting another country, then check that you have the correct number of your Embassy. Also keep an extra copy of all your important documents and identity papers.
- Choosing the right bag is a task that is often overlooked. Pick a bag with wheels, so that you can pack more things in it and carter it around with relative ease. Also plant an easily identifiable sticker on it with your name or any other mark.
