While green tea may be good for health, it isn't exactly very appetizing. Considering the fact that adding sugar would nullify the medicinal properties of any tea, not sweetening the tea leaves us with very few options to improve the taste. Secondly, adding milk to green tea destroys the herbal taste of the tea and adds a whole bunch of unwanted calories. So that leaves us with one simple question, how to make green tea taste better? I for one, find it very tough to drink green tea without any sweetener. Fortunately, there are a few other ingredients you can try experimenting with, which I have found suitable in making the tea taste less bland. What Can you Put in Green Tea to Make it Taste Better? Cinnamon Adding a teaspoon of powdered cinnamon or even a few strips of the herb, will make the green tea taste a whole lot different and much tastier. It is best to use green tea leaves, rather than tea bags, as it lets the extracts of the two herbs blend properly. Cardamom You may use cardamom powder or simply let the pods boil with the green tea. Cardamom too gives out its distinct flavor and aroma, thus making it a suitable choice for blending in with green tea leaves. Bay Leaves Bay leaves give out a rather strong flavor and when boiled with green tea, will help get over a bad cold in a jiffy. This is a medicinal herb, so you may either choose to drink it with green tea only when you're feeling unwell, or on a daily basis, so as to keep minor infections at bay. Cloves Cloves too can be used alongside green tea leaves. Cloves make the tea a bit peppery to taste, which gives a new flavor to the mundane taste of simple green tea. All you need to do is add 4-5 cloves into the tea and let it simmer for 5 minutes, so that the extract of the herb seeps out. Lemon Drops You can mix and match, by making green tea, using cinnamon, fresh honey and 5-6 drops of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Or you could only add lemon juice to your green tea, along with some honey, and you will notice a remarkable change in the flavor of the tea. Your boring green tea will taste a lot like liqueur tea and you will find yourself really savoring the new taste! Ginger Extract Dice a few slices of fresh ginger roots and let these boil with the green tea leaves. Ginger has since long been used for making tea, and this tradition is still followed in many cultures. Ginger has medicinal properties as well, so you feel safe in the knowledge that it will do you only good. You can even make iced green tea, spicing it up further by adding a few lemon drops, ginger and fresh honey. Vanilla Extract You can also try adding vanilla extract to your green tea after it has been kept for cooling. This flavor may not appeal to everyone, but some may find it pleasantly surprising. All you need is one drop of vanilla extract in your green tea in order to completely transform the taste. Drinking green tea plain is not a tasty option, and it may ends up dissuading you to keep drinking it regularly. There is absolutely no harm in adding fresh honey to your tea, as honey is good for health and does not cause any harm, unlike processed sugar. Weigh watchers must not worry about taking in extra calories by adding honey to their green tea. All the above mentioned suggestions for making green tea taste better have been tried and tested by me. Personally I do not like the tea bag version of green tea and always go in for the tea leaves.
