Instructions for Cooking Corn on the Cob Corn on the cob can be cooked on the stove, in the microwave and in an oven. Here are each of these cooking methods described in detail for you. Using a Stove Step 1: Take a pot and pour some water in it. Keep the pot for heating on the stove and let it reach a boiling point. The size of the pot that you choose, will depend on the quantity of the corn to be boiled. Step 2: Take the corn and remove the green husk. The remaining silky hair on the corn can be removed by splashing water forcefully on it. Make sure to clean the corn properly before putting it in water. Step 3: Now that the corn is cleaned, put it in the boiling water. Cover the pot with a lid. Let the corn boil for about five minutes. If you want them to be really soft, you may extend the time to ten minutes. Step 4: When the corn has boiled properly, take the ears out by using tongs, as they will be really hot. Now you may add salt and pepper to it according to taste. Personally, I like to cover them on all sides with butter and cheese first, before adding salt and pepper. It makes them really yummy. In the Microwave Step 1: Remove the husk and clean the corn as mentioned in Step 2 above. Step 2: Take a microwave safe dish and pour some water in it. Now place the corn in it, not more than three ears should be placed together at one time. Cover the dish with a plastic wrap so that the corn can be steamed properly. Remember to leave a small opening in the plastic wrap, at the side of the dish, this will help the steam to venture out. Step 3: Now set the microwave on high temperature and put the microwave safe dish in it. It takes about six minutes for the corn to get cooked properly. Step 4: When the corn is cooked, remove the dish from the microwave. Take a pair of tongs and remove the plastic wrap. Freshly made corn is now ready to be savored. In the Oven Step 1: Preheat the oven at 350°F. Step 2: Place the corn with the outer green husks intact, on the oven rack. To roast it properly, you may leave the corn in the oven for about half an hour. Step 3: Take out the corn from the oven and peel its green husks. Or alternately you may use these husks as a handle while eating your delicious corn on the cob. You may select any of these methods depending on the quantity of the corns. While cooking corn on the cob in a microwave, only three ears of corn can be cooked at a time. While boiling corn on a stove, if a big pot is used, you may boil up to ten ears together, but some people do not like to deal with pots and boiling water in the summertime. So depending upon your choice and convenience you can choose any of the methods mentioned above.
