German Chocolate Pie

German chocolate pies are a favorite with many because they are a perfect blend of chocolate cake and pie topping. Given in this article are two mouth-watering recipes.

You can make German chocolate pie in very simple steps and also in very short time. So, instead of the usual dessert you serve during Thanksgiving or any other occasion, you can try any of the recipes mentioned below. German Pie with Coconut Ingredients
  • German sweet chocolate, chopped, 4 oz.
  • Butter, 1 tbsp.
  • Vanilla extract, 1 tsp.
  • Sugar, ½ cup
  • Cornstarch, 3 tbsp.
  • Milk,1½ cups
  • Egg yolks, beaten, 2
  • Pastry shell, baked, 1 (size - nine inch)
Topping
  • Sugar, ½ cup
  • Evaporated milk, 2 cups
  • Butter, ¼ cup
  • Flaked coconut, 1½ cups
  • Pecans, chopped, ½ cup
Directions In a mixing bowl, melt the butter and German chocolate and mix it till it's smooth and then stir in Vanilla. Keep this aside till you make the batter of the pie. In a sauce pan, combine the sugar, milk, and cornstarch and mix it till it turns smooth and soft. Cook it over medium flame till it is thickened and bubbly, and then reduce the heat to cook the mixture for another 2 minutes. Remove the heat and stir a small amount of this hot filling in the egg yolks and then add it to the initial pan. Stir it for some time and then place it on the heat again to bring it to boil for another 2 minutes. Remove it from the heat and add it to the chocolate mix, spoon it carefully in the pastry shell. In another small sauce pan combine the evaporated milk, sugar, and butter and bring it to a boil. Remove from heat and add to the egg yolk to bring it back on the heat and stir it continuously to avoid lumps. After it is boiled turn off the heat and add the coconut and pecans. Then pour this over the chocolate filling and cool it on a wire rack. Cover it and refrigerate for at least 3 hours before you serve it. German Pie with Cream Cheese Ingredients
  • Cream cheese, 3 packs
  • Sugar, 1 cup
  • Eggs, lightly beaten, 5
  • Vanilla, 1 tbsp.
  • German sweet chocolate, 4 oz.
  • Graham cracker crumbs, 3 cups
  • Butter, melted, 3 cups
  • Pie plates, 2 (size - nine inch)
Directions In a mixing bowl, add the cracker crumbs and sugar and stir it with some melted butter. Take the pie plates, add the crust to both of them and refrigerate them till you prepare the filling. Take another large bowl and add the cream cheese to beat it thoroughly. Once it's fluffy and soft, add the sugar, eggs, and vanilla and beat it till it is soft and smooth. Remove the cheese mixture into another small bowl and mix it in the chocolate and divide the two cream cheese mixtures in both the pie plates equally. Bake these pies at 350°F for at least 40 to 45 minutes and then cool it on the wire rack. Refrigerate for 5 hours or overnight and then serve it some whipped cream and cherries.
