Cheap Easy Crafts

Crafts are handmade objects that can be used for functional or decorative purposes. This article lists some easy and inexpensive crafts that are fun to create.

Craft making is an art activity which can be enjoyed by people of all age groups, especially kids. It not only keeps you busy in your leisure time, but also helps to develop your creative skills. Whether used as decorative pieces or gift items, craft requires time and lot of thoughtfulness. Though it is easy to go to a store and buy a whole load of art and craft related material, sometimes it is better to utilize different materials that can be found in your home. Measuring Cup Wind Chimes Materials Required:
  • Set of 4 metal measuring cups
  • Wire whisk
  • Acrylic paint
  • Sealer
  • Fishing line
Directions: Choose different colors to paint flowers on the measuring cups. Pick one color for each cup. Paint green lines around the sides of the cup, and then paint small leaves across it. Paint the flowers on the inside and bottom of the cups. Let everything dry, and spray or brush the entire project with a sealer. Tie the fishing line to each hole in the cups, string each cup to the whisk, and knot off. You can vary the length of the strings so that the cups fall in a cascading line. Floral Washcloth Materials Required:
  • Two washcloths - one white, one colored
  • Bar of soap
  • Silk flower with leaves
  • Few sprigs of delicate floral accents, like baby's breath
  • Thin ribbon
  • Hot glue
Directions: Place the white washcloth on a table, and fold an inch of the left side. Double the fold, and repeat the procedure with the right side. Keep folding until the folded sides meet in the middle of the cloth. Now, fold the colored cloth in a similar pattern but keep it one inch narrow from side to side. Keep the soap in the middle of the folded white washcloth in such a way that the sides of the cloth are even with the sides of the soap. Fold the lower edge of the washcloth up to meet the top edge, enclosing the soap in the middle. Wrap the colored washcloth over the white washcloth, and secure the soap in the center by tying a thin ribbon around the washcloths. Tie the ribbon in a small bow and leave the two ends to trail down. With some hot glue, secure the small floral accents in the middle of the ribbon bow. Victorian Note Holder Materials Required:
  • 4½ inch oval-shaped piece of wood
  • Fancy button
  • Acrylic paint
  • Wooden clothespin
  • Small magnet
  • Black permanent marker
  • Glue
  • Sealer
Directions: Select a fancy button of your choice and use this to pick the paint color scheme for your note holder. Paint the front and back of the piece of wood with the main color, and the edges in contrasting colors. Paint the clothespin with a different color and allow it to dry. Glue the clothespin to the middle of the note holder with the opening facing down so you can hold notes at the bottom. With the marker, write down a message on the top like 'Please Leave a Note' or anything else that you may like. Spray or paint the entire project with a sealer, but don't forget to keep a piece of paper in the mouth of the clothespin so that the sealer doesn't seep in. Once the sealer is dry, remove the paper from the clothespin. You can make different crafts at home. You can add variations to them by using decorative items like ribbons, tags, colorful buttons, etc. Sock puppets, face masks, paper crafts are some great ideas for children. Since most of the materials are easily available at home, these crafts are simple, exciting, and fun to do.
