Back in those days, there used to be that one thing that all the kids were after. We are sure that you yourself remember asking Santa Claus for that one toy all your friends had. Back in our time, it was the G.I. Joe action figures for boys and barbie dolls for girls. However, things have changed now. Exclusivity is the name of the game. No one wants what everyone has. Every kid wants that really cool thing that no other kid has so that the exclusivity of the toy is maintained. Parents don't really get the point when kids ask for something that none of their friends have. They don't understand the novelty value of a unique toy! But then again, some toys will always remain immortal because, well, they are truly awesome and there was something about them and the time in which they were conceptualized and created, that gives them a long-lasting appeal. Toys of All Time Lego Lego is certainly one of those toys that won't die easily. It is a simple game with 'bricks', which the kids use to build buildings, cars, planes, everything possible! You also get these little Lego men and women to live, drive, and fly in them. Barbie Dolls Barbara Millicent Roberts (Barbie Doll) is probably the most loved 50 year old around. As the popularity of the doll increased, its manufacturing company, Mattel, decided to make Barbies more region specific, like the Indian Barbie. Barbie was born in 1959, and it still remains one of the best selling toys for girls. Hot Wheels Another brainchild of the Mattel company, the car models of 'hot wheels' have been selling like hot cakes since 1968, the year of its inception. Hot wheels are widely regarded as the smoothest toy cars in the world! And the race tracks made by Mattel add to the charisma of the car. Hot wheels are a major collectible among kids, and many of us have our own prized collection! Rubik's Cube While several 'successors' like the Sudoku cube have been launched to keep the legacy of the cube alive, nothing has ever been able to match up to the high sales standards set by the Rubik's cube. There was a time in the 1980s when every kid had one of these and kids would sit together and try to solve it! It is one of the very few educational toys, dealing with problem solving, that achieved this kind of popularity! G.I. Joe One of the toy franchise, Hasbro, shot straight to the top back when they released their brand new action figure known as G.I. Joe. The figures took the world by storm when they came out. It was a simple action figure whose hands, legs, and sometimes heads moved to make sure that the fights between one G.I. Joe and the Cobra Command looked realistic. It was quite a revolutionary toy and inspired several other action figures, like Spiderman, Batman, etc. You can also buy weapons to equip your G.I. Joe! Tetris This was perhaps one of the first hand-held video games to come out. It was a simple game where bricks of different shapes and sizes would fall, and you were supposed to arrange them in a way that there would be no gaps between a row of bricks. Honorable mentions include the PSP, the Wii, the Super Mario game, and the assorted Pokemon merchandise. Didn't that make you nostalgic!
