What Does the Bible Say About Loneliness

Loneliness brings with it unsaid sadness and grimness. The Bible however, gives strength to cope up with this distress, and becomes the guiding light to a new relationship with God.

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
~ Revelation 3:20 (ESV)
Being alone and being lonely are two very different situations. You can be happy being alone but being lonely is like a curse which makes you cringe in pain and desolation. Loneliness is definitely not a choice but a forced option, making you want to scream out for some company. Looking back at my own life, I can claim to have seen the worst of loneliness and despair in my waking life. And in all those moments of crying out for someone to understand, I have found solace in the words of the Bible. It only goes to say that in my disappointments with the people around me, God has been the constant ray of hope that has got me sailing through the toughest storms, alone. The Bible, simply understood, is a gentle reminder that if ours is a lost case in this world of mortals, God is always with us. So to say the least, the Bible surely reminds us of God's constant support and help, even in the times that we are down in the dumps. In those times that you despair and feel alone, remember Matthew 4:4, "Man shall not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from God." Undoubtedly, God understands even your loneliness and leave it to Him, He will get you out of it before you begin to sink.
God Cares
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. ~ Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)
Yes, you heard right, God cares for you in His ways, and He will never forsake you. Look at your loneliness through His eyes, through your darkest days He stands close to you, never once leaving your hand. The Bible says, call upon the LORD, your God, when in distress and sorrow, and you are sure to find solace. Lay all your anxieties and fears that come with loneliness on the shoulder of God, for He truly cares for you.
Help is Round the Corner
Then the Lord God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him." ~ Genesis 2:18 (ESV)
Everyone of us has a guardian angel out there, to take care of us. It is for us to trust in His providence and His creations. It is true that often when we are in the dumps, we fail to see the help that comes to us. There is someone for each of us who truly understands our needs and heart's desires. Consider this, love comes in any form, including pets who are more than willing to listen to you whine. Remember to reach out your hand when you need help. Sometimes, loneliness is just that monster that tends to take over your thoughts, making you blind to company that's just around the corner. Truly, all help comes from the Lord, the creator of Heaven and the Earth.
Reach Out
But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me. ~ Psalm 13:5-6
The least you can do is to reach out to someone else who is in need of dire company, when you yourself are tempest-tossed. Trusting His providence does not come easy in times of despair and loneliness, but trust you must. When you begin to trust His giving, the burdens are lightened, and you begin to heal once again. Be thankful and reach out to someone in need, it will benefit both of you. Take it in your stride, the only way to overcome loneliness is to open up to someone. For it is in giving, that we truly receive.
Hope is not Lost
And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" that is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" ~ Matthew 27:46 (ESV)
Christ himself has gone through loneliness and despair and cried out to the Father in the same way that you would in times of loneliness. This just goes to show, He who has been through the worst of rejection, dejection, and persecution shall not let your cry go in vain. His love is profound and in your joys and your grief, He reigns high with you. It is perfectly fine for you to feel lonely and down but the bottom line is, if God is beside you, you need not fear any misery and pain.

Let's just say, God uses pain, sorrow, depression, and loneliness to pull you closer to Him. Take it from me, there are lessons you learn, albeit the hard way, but there is no one on the face of the Earth who will stand firm by you in loneliness, as God the Almighty will.
