You don't need Einstein's brain to realize that we are fast running out of time to save our planet. If you intend to do your bit for this cause, here are some simple ways by which you can help the environment and save it from being damaged to an extent where repair is impossible.
While the number of environmental issues the Earth is facing is multiplying rapidly, we can't seem to come to a consensus to solve them. The efforts to bring all the concerned authorities together are being initiated by various organizations, but it seems unlikely that the differences between them will be resolved in near future. In such circumstances, we―as responsible citizens―need to put in some efforts to do our bit to save the planet. This can be easily done by inculcating simple mannerisms which will reduce the pressure on the environment in our day-to-day life.
... at Home
What better place to initiate your efforts to save the environment than your home? You can contribute your bit by following some simple steps. Reduce, reuse, and recycle is by far the best motto when working at the individual level. Most of the things we use today are derived from non-renewable sources, which are bound to get over some day. We can save them only by reducing their use, using them to their potential, and recycling them―if possible. These include fossil fuels, paper, water, etc.
Another important step towards helping the environment would be using less electricity. This can be done by switching off home appliances when not in use. Lower the temperature of your thermostat, replace incandescent light bulb with a CFL, use less hot water, switch to bicycle when possible―though simple, these steps can yield positive results when practiced together by the whole world.
... at School
They say that kids are the future, so inculcating in them, the need of working towards saving the environment, is bound to make them responsible citizens. Though their efforts will be small, they will turn out to be helpful when taken as a whole in the long run. Kids can help by planting trees, not wasting paper, making sure that they use water properly, not wasting electricity, and spreading awareness about the urgency of doing something to save the Earth. Planting trees can help in bringing about that much-needed stability in the environment, while not wasting resources will make sure that we will use them efficiently. Inculcating these mannerisms in kids at a tender age, will make them realize the seriousness of the issue more efficiently.
Other Lifestyle Changes
One of the biggest hazards for our planet is that of climate change and global warming. Though the debate continues, we can start taking some simple efforts to tackle them, so that we don't have to repent if these calamities do descend on us tomorrow. Human-induced global warming is basically caused due to a range of human activities, including the use of fossil fuels and deforestation. While the problems may sound quite devastating, it doesn't necessarily mean that you can't do anything about it.
The simple efforts through which you can contribute to save the environment include walking or cycling instead of using a vehicle, taking shower for a less period, using less electricity, planting trees, switching to environment friendly alternative fuels, etc. It will not just help us reduce the impact of global warming, but will also help in tackling several other environmental issues, including air and water pollution.
Simply identifying environmental problems is of no avail, if we don't do anything about them. It's high time we stop complaining that the concerned authorities are not doing anything and take things in our own hands. It's too late to keep these things for tomorrow. Now we are left with no option, but to act, and if we continue to put off the things for tomorrow, there may not be a tomorrow for us to ponder over these problems ... you never know.
