For people who love horror and excitement, this article on top 10 horror movies of the decade is surely going to be a real treat. These scariest horror movies are just the perfect way to spend a night out or a weekend. So here are the top 10 options for your viewing. Top 10 Scary Movies of the Decade This list of top 10 scariest movies of the decade is a personal one but I haven't been biased. The names mentioned in this article are movies which have either been commercially or critically successful. Nonetheless, I guarantee that you will love these if you are a true horror movie fan. ✂ Let The Right One In, 2008 A true masterpiece and a personal favorite, Let The Right One In is a low-budget Swedish horror by Tomas Alfredson and John Ajvide Lindqvist who also wrote the book with the same name. Watch this movie to understand the brilliance of the director and the writer's understanding of telling horror stories. 12-year-old boy bullied by the school kids falls in love with a hundred year old vampire who appears to be his age. Romance begins to blossom and after a series of complications and murders, the boy becomes aware of the truth. The story is violent, scary, romantic and one of the few films which will leave you with a different thought. ✂ Trick r' Treat, 2008 Without question, this is one of the scariest movies ever made. Trick r' Treat is a movie which every horror fanatic will enjoy and adore. It's so good that people have made Trick r' Treat a must watch in the month of October and it's often compared to John Carpenter's Halloween. The movie is an amazing collection of four Halloween related stories and Michael Dougherty, the writer and director of this film, has done an amazing job of putting it together. ✂ Zodiac, 2007 So it didn't include ghosts and supernatural spirits, but it did include the killings of the most successful serial killer in the history of the United States. Zodiac, being one of the best horror movies of the decade, is based on the real life killings in the San Francisco Bay Area during the late 60's and early 70's. The most amazing part about this story is that the Zodiac killer has never been caught and the cops still don't have an identity of him. This film stars Robert Downey Junior and Jake Gyllenhaal. Even though it was an average box office grosser, it's still one of the scariest movies ever made. ✂ Paranormal Activity, 2007 This horror movie created a lot of confusion when it first released. Some people wanted to see it while some thought it would be a waste of time. However, people who saw it surely got goose bumps. It was a new concept and it also proved that good movies can be made even with a normal digital camera, all you need is a good story and a talented director. If you are a fan of horror movies, it's time to try Paranormal Activity which offers something entirely new. ✂ The Orphanage, 2007 As a horror movie fan, if you haven't seen The Orphanage you have missed something very important. It's produced by the multi talented Guillermo del Toro, one of the most talented filmmakers today and directed by Sergio G. Sanchez. The plot is about a woman named Laura who returns to restore the orphanage in which she grew up with her husband and son. Complications arise when her son starts seeing frightening images in the house warning her of an evil spirit present in the house. It's intense, gripping and very scary. See it! ✂ The Hills Have Eyes, 2006 It's one of the few remade films which still look good. Director Alexandre Aja includes all the elements needed in an effective horror film and makes it a worthy watch. The battle between humans and hillside mutants is an interesting concept. The best part about the film is that almost all gore scenes are shot in broad daylight and not dark cramped spaces. Aja has tried to be different in this project and it's turned out to be pretty well. ✂ The Descent, 2005 This is one of the few horror movies which portrays women in a very brave way. Often in horror films women are shown as prime targets but not in this one. The cast of The Descent is entirely made of strong women, who are out to survive and deal with the situation no matter what. The entire movie is based on the underground cave system and it can get extremely claustrophobic. ✂ Saw, 2004 Definitely scary, if not for you then I'm pretty sure it's terrifying at some points. There have been many sequels but the original SAW is still the best. This is a movie with a powerful script and when the script is that powerful, the movie automatically becomes a cult classic. Along with "Hostel", SAW is often called the torture horror and very few people can sit through the film and not get disgusted by the sadistic way in which each of the characters are killed. ✂ 28 Days Later, 2002 A great horror film by Danny Boyle, 28 Days Later is very different from the traditional zombie films. In this movie audiences will meet fast zombies which makes the film even more fast paced and scary. This film also experienced the possibility of the situation where an entire city is filled with zombies and only one man is still human. ✂ The Ring, 2002 One of the most successful horror movies of the decade, The Ring has everything a horror freak would want. It's gore, a good storyline, good effects, good acting and amazing supernatural phenomena. The plot itself is cursed; you watch a very disgusting video tape and you get a phone call which says, "Seven Days". This means you've got a week to live. The movie is filled with terrifying visions and amazing music score. If you haven't seen it, watch it now! I think most readers would be satisfied with my choice on the top 10 horror movies of the decade. Horror fans who haven't watched any of them should definitely dig into them and share their experiences with me.
