Things You'll Need
Hair Rollers Curling Iron Hair Dryer Wide-tooth Comb Styling Serum
Tip #1: Heat is the Enemy!
Synthetic hair is nothing but plastic fiber. If you use too much heat it will melt. Never use a curling iron or wand to curl synthetic hair extensions. Of course there are some exceptions. If you are using hair made up of good quality synthetic fiber, you can curl it with curling an iron or wand. That doesn't mean you go all crazy with the heat-styling tool. Always keep the heat on the lowest setting when using any styling tool on synthetic hair. Before using a curling iron or any other styling instrument that uses heat, do apply heat-protecting lotion to the synthetic hair.
Tip #2: Hot Water's the Key!
You can curl synthetic hair with rollers and hot water. To ensure that your curls set well, apply a setting serum or use some styling spray on the hair. Then comb it thoroughly, and divide them into sections. The exact size of the section will depend on how curly you want your hair to be. If you want very tight curls, make small sections; for waves and loose curls, make bigger ones. Now use hair rollers with barrel size of your choice on the sections. Once all your extensions have been properly rolled up, you have to dip the rollers in hot water. Use a towel to ensure you don't burn yourself. Remember, the water should not be boiling or too hot. You can remove the rollers once your synthetic hair has dried completely. Use a wide-toothed comb to slightly brush the hair; don't be too vigorous or else you'll lose the curls. If you are using a synthetic hair wig, it is better to hang it on a stand and then do the above procedure. You can wear the wig after curling the hair. If your extensions are clipped to your hair, you can curl them without removing them. Do take ample precautions, or else you may end up burning yourself.
Tip #3: Blow Dryer
Blow drying hair is a simple and quick way to style hair, and you may be tempted to use one on your synthetic hair as well. But it is not really advisable, as you may end up damaging the synthetic hair. Some fibers can handle the heat of a blow dryer though, and when used on strictly lowest heat settings, a blow dryer can be effective in curling hair. Wash the extensions well with a mild shampoo; use a towel to dab the excess water. Apply some styling product of your choice. Then, using a very wide comb, slightly brush your hair. Now divide the hair into sections according to the type of curls you want, and roll them up in hair rollers. Using the diffuser mode of a hair dryer, blow dry on the lowest heat setting. Once the extensions are absolutely dry, you can remove the rollers and flaunt your curls in style!
Synthetic Hair Care
It is very important to take care of synthetic hair properly, even more than your natural hair. Using too many products will decrease the lifespan of the extensions. It will also change the texture and look of the hair. You can choose from a variety of different types like clip-ons or clip-ins. There are varied options to choose from in the fiber as well. Lastly, it is advisable to consider your budget, time, and other constraints before choosing an extension.
