He and Joshua are sent to a Nazi concentration camp. Dora is sent with them as she refuses to leave them. Guido convinces Joshua that the entire camp is a game, at the end of which the winner will receive a real tank. He protects his son, and asks him to hide so that he can find Dora. Guido is captured and killed by the guards. Joshua comes out of his hiding place the next day to find an empty camp. A U.S. tank arrives, and Joshua gets to ride in it until he reunites with his mother. What we learned? Guido leaves his son with an important lesson- Life is beautiful! It seems impossible to him. He struggles to survive on that lonely island. He finds a friend in a "volleyball" and names it Wilson. He has constant chats with Wilson. Wilson and a photo of Kelly keep his hopes alive. He makes numerous attempts to escape the island. After a span of four years, he sets out on a raft, and loses his friend, Wilson. He is depressed by the loss and sometime later, he is rescued by a passing cargo ship. When he gets back, he finds out that Kelly is already married, and they depart. He buys a new volleyball to return it to the sender in Canada. What we learned? A man learns to be strong in solitude. He comes to know of his strengths and weaknesses. You cannot really give up.
