A woman was asked by a co-worker, "What is it like to be a Christian?" The co-worker replied, "It is like being a pumpkin. God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt of you. Then he cuts off the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff. He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, and greed. Then he carves you a new smiling face and puts his light inside you to shine for all the world to see." This small story puts it in a nutshell: God loved us so much that he wanted us to have his light; his life always shining through our lives. Christianity is not a religion. If we see it as such, we missed the whole point. The point here is that if we take Buddha from Buddhism, we still have the set of rules remaining; if we take Mohammed out of Islam, we still have the regulations to live by and so on with all religious leaders who have died, leaving their concepts behind for their followers. However, if we take Jesus Christ out of Christianity, its whole existence is gone. Without him, Christianity is non-existent. Christianity is a handful of everything that originates in God. All the mysteries of science and knowledge, wisdom and power are encompassed, and also proven to have their origins and the very existence in One person, namely Jesus Christ, who not only claimed to be the Son of God, but also proved himself to be as such through his humiliating death on the cross, followed by his glorious resurrection, thus conquering death itself. God gave the Law of Moses and Israel. His chosen ones did their best to keep it, yet no human was ever able to keep it without flaws. When Jesus Christ came, he was the embodiment of the Law of God, of the very Word of God in flesh and bones. He alone was able to fulfill the law of God as no man could, not before him, or after his life on Earth. That's why, he pointed at God, his Father within every occasion: "I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he is doing. In fact, the Father will show him how to do even greater works than healing this man. Then you will truly be astonished. For just as the Father gives life to those he raises from the dead, so the Son gives life to anyone he wants. In addition, the Father judges no one. Instead, he has given the Son absolute authority to judge, so that everyone will honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Anyone who does not honor the Son is certainly not honoring the Father who sent him." - John 5:19-23 "I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life." - John 5:24 "And I assure you that the time is coming, indeed it's here now, when the dead will hear my voice - the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen will live." - John 5:25 "The Father has life in himself, and he has granted that same life, giving power to his Son. And he has given him authority to judge everyone because he is the Son of Man. Don't be so surprised. Indeed, the time is coming when all the dead in their graves will hear the voice of God's Son, and they will rise again. Those who have done good will rise to experience eternal life, and those who have continued in evil will rise to experience judgment. I can do nothing on my own. I judge as God tells me. Therefore, my judgment is just, because I carry out the will of the One who sent Me, not My own will." - John 5:26-30 Pointing at God, his Father, showing the true nature of God on Earth was what Jesus Christ, the Son of God came for. It is amazing to see how difficult it is for us humans to humble ourselves before other people (especially when we know we're right), and when we look at Jesus Christ, as he left all that heavenly perfection he was accustomed to as being God. He chose to come down to his creatures and humiliate himself so low, accepting to be crucified. It is beyond what we can comprise with our limited understanding, but he has surely made his point: He loves us. Wouldn't it have been easier to show his power to all the world and rule by his power? He does have it all. But, he seems to be interested in us coming to him not for fear of his power but as a response to his love; it is him who first loved us. Thus, we should at least try to follow his footsteps and help others humbly and selflessly.
