Ten Books that will Change your Life

Reading the title of this article, you might think this is a summary of ten self-help or philosophy books. Well, most of the books on the list do belong to the self-help genre, however, there are also books from other genres that also bestow the reader with a life transforming experience.

Once in a while you come across a book that makes a deep impact, not only on your thinking, but also your personality. Something similar happened to me lately. I came across some books that actually changed my life. I did not pick them up on purpose, just happened to grab them. Here, I have made an attempt to list out the top ten books that will definitely change your life forever, as they certainly changed mine. Here they are. 1. Ulysses By James Joyce I don't think there is any other book, which has been hated and acclaimed so much. The book fires up a thought process. Each time I read the book (yes, I have read it several times) I end up with something fresh to write about. It's a complex read, but transforms you altogether. 2. The Secret By Rhonda Byrne The Secret can be summarized in four words- "The Law Of Attraction". Although, there is a lot more to this bestseller than that. According to Byrne and the 29 other contributors of the book, everything in the universe vibrates with a certain frequency. Now, if you can match the frequency of your thinking with the frequency of something, you attract it into your life. It sounds a little complex, but it is actually easier done than said! Simply put, it means, you think of something good and you attract something good into your life and vice versa. It does not tell you something new, there are scores of books on positive thinking, power of thinking, etc., but the way, the secret is put, you actually feel like you have discovered something. It is obvious why this book made it into my list of top ten books that are capable of changing lives. 3. Who Moved My Cheese By Spencer Johnson This simple book teaches you, how to deal with or adapt to change. Everyone knows that change is a constant phenomenon in anyone's life, yet somehow we don't want to accept it. It is also one of the best selling books in the world. The book has four characters, viz., two mice and two little people (as little as the mice). The book is about how the four of them deal with change, in their own unique ways. 4. The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho It is amazing, how some books come up with a concept that applies virtually to everything in your life. The Alchemist is one such book. The essence of the book lies in the single line - "When you really want something, the whole universe conspires to help you in achieving it." Paulo conveys this message perfectly through the symbolic tale of santiago, a shepherd, who sets out to achieve his dream. 5. The Kite Runner By Khaled Hosseini It is a story of an unusual friendship, set in the disturbed Afghanistan. The book has a lyrical narrative and exposes you to new insights on life in general. 6. 7 Habits of Highly effective people By Stephen R. Covey The book is not just about personal growth or self help, but it shows you the simple principles, like, time management in a new light. Most importantly, it tells you how to apply these principles. Stephen gives productivity and time management a new meaning and brings a more effective person out of you. 7. The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari By Robin Sharma The simplest things in life, defy us the most. Robin Sharma aims and elaborates these very simple realities of life through this book. It's a story of a successful lawyer, who has every kind of worldly pleasure and success. At a point, he suffers a severe heart attack and wakes up to different realities of life. He sets out on a journey to the east, leaving behind everything he owns. Robin emphasizes the importance of living a simple life in the book, and he does it beautifully. 8. Thinking for a Change by John C. Maxwell The book has been rightly subtitled as 11 Ways in which Highly Successful People Approach Life and Work. After reading the book, I realized that, we almost never give a thought to our thought process! Maxwell focuses precisely on the same point. 9. Rich Dad Poor Dad By Robert Kiyosaki I am not very good with finances or economics, so Rich Dad Poor Dad came as a blessing. It provides some great insights on investment in real estate. It explains how you can live off just your investments without having a high paying job. The book is an eye opener in many respects. 10. How To Win Friends and Influence People By Dale Carnegie Before reading the book, I thought, "I don't need this sort of a book, I'm great with my friends!" But, I was wrong. This book is mandatory for every person, who has a family, friends, and relatives. Most of us tend to overlook the importance of the people in our lives and the relation we share with them. Carnegie gives you all the essential relationship-handling techniques through various real life examples. A must read. Novels are published every day, and the list of the top-10 books that will help you experience a change in your life, will vary greatly, however, the criteria that makes the books appealing will remain more or less the same. Also, this is my personal list. If you think I have missed out on something, feel free to drop a comment.
