With the Super Bowl 2011 concluding ten months ago, all focus shifted to the 2012 one. Barely after the former got over, discussions were already rife about the Super Bowl 2012 date and location. And for all those who might not have the idea of the magnanimity of the event, this is going to be the 46th annual edition of the Super Bowl in American football, and the 42nd annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL) of modern times. Date for Super Bowl Game 2012 Due to some problems in the 2011 season, there were concerns whether the Super Bowl XLV would go on schedule or not. While the league had never canceled important games, there was much talk about a cancellation, or a change in the dates for the event. It was being said that the Super Bowl 2012 was going to be dependent on the way things uncovered at the Super Bowl 2011. The smooth organization of the Super Bowl 2011 was going to be decided by the adoption of a new collective bargaining agreement between the league and the National Football Players Association. This was going to be either during the 2011 season or prior to it. Thankfully, everything went fine, with all problems being solved somewhere around July 2011. Though the league was wary of declaring the date because of the chances of the season being canceled as a result of work stoppage or strike, it declared the date as February 5th. Now, with all problems solved, the date has been confirmed, and Sunday, the 5th of February, 2012, will be the date that it will be held. Those looking for a countdown, it currently stands at 58 days 17 hours and 7 minutes, at the time of publishing this article. Super Bowl 2012 Location Now that the danger of stoppages or cancellations have passed, the event is going to be held, as scheduled, in Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. Interestingly, in all the years Super Bowl has been held, Indianapolis has never hosted the mega event before. Moreover, this is the fourth time that this event is being organized in a cold weather city. As is the tradition, there was a proper host selection process along with the decision about the Super Bowl 2011 date. Greater Houston, Texas, bid to host the event at Reliant Stadium in January 2008. Following that, on 19 February 2008, Indianapolis bid for the same with an agreement that a practice facility would be built on the Arsenal Technical High School campus. Arizona too, bid in March 2008 for hosting the Super Bowl 2012. The NFL franchise owners picked up the Indianapolis bid in a meeting on May 20, 2008 and zeroed in on the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis as the Super Bowl 2012 location. The Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee comprising 18 staff members, brought together by the NFL, will look after the planning and execution. The date and location are slightly dependent on the National Football Players Association, and the news that all the problems are resolved and everything is on schedule must be good news indeed for the fans!
