It's no fun if you haven't grown up with cheese all your life, and explored its many tastes and smells as you aged. Before we begin about how shredded cheese is used in cooking and in preparing sauces, we first look into what a turophile is. It simply means, lover of cheese, or one that has a love for cheese. It takes root from the Greek word tyros, meaning cheese and philos meaning, beloved / dear. There are different kinds of shredded cheese, or what is known as grated cheese, that comes either in blocks that you can grate by hand, or in ready-made form that's been packed as grated strands. Either way, these grated cheese types come from hard cheese, since they hold together well. We look into how cheese can benefit lovers of this beautiful dairy byproduct. and those who like the occasional cheesy dish. How to Make a Cheese Dip This dip that I've put together can be coupled with anything like say, bread sticks, buffalo wings, fried chicken, steak, pasta, seafood, tortillas and more. Use your own take on how this dip can be used not just as an accompaniment but as a sauce for dishes that need it. What You'll Need:
  • 200g of Parmesan cheese (shredded)
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tbsp of corn kernels
  • 1 tsp of chives
  • 1 tsp of chili flakes (add more for spiciness)
  • 1 small piece of ginger
  • 2 tbsp of olive oil
  • 1 tbsp of whole seedless green / black olives
  • 1 dollop of sour cream
  • 100g of halloumi cheese
Method of Preparation: Take a deep dish and fill it halfway with water; keep it on the boil and set it on low flame. Place a glass bowl that is slightly bigger than the opening of the dish and let it sit above it, so that it gets indirect heat from the boiling water below. Dump your Parmesan cheese in, keeping the flame on low; let it gradually melt into a nice and thick creamy consistency. Take the bowl out and pour in your creamy mixture into another bowl, and fold in your sour cream, crushed garlic, corn, chives, ginger and olive oil. Blitz this mixture in a blender for five seconds and then scoop out your mix back into the bowl. Lastly, add in your chili flakes, whole olives, and then garnish with more chives. Once that is done, gently dry roast your halloumi cheese till it turns slightly brown and then serve these as a side dish for your dip - heavenly. If you'd like to try this dip with other food add-ons, I'd suggest bread sticks or cheese straws (flaky, twisted dough). The combination is flavorful and quite appetizing for those who want a nice douse of something both light and delicious. You can also get creative and pour dip into little canapés filled with a smoked turkey / duck filling. Shredded cheese is something that can be added last when making a dish, to give it that cheesy finished top layer. Don't be afraid to experiment with this kind of cheese. Expose your palate to different types of it, to give your senses that jolt in taste and texture. In time you'll come to love this very important ingredient in fine cooking, and eventually, fall in love with it. Have a 'cheesy' day.
