Paper Flower Folding Ideas

Origami is a popular Japanese art of paper folding, known for its elegant and amazing paper molds. This article provides a few easy instructions for making origami flowers.

The term origami is derived from the two Japanese words 'Ori' and 'Kami', meaning folding and paper, respectively. It is one of the most popular crafts activities enjoyed by people of different age groups, especially kids. Since they are inquisitive and quick learners, making paper models can help kids explore their hidden artistic talents. It can help them develop dexterous fingers, logical and disciplined mind; and improve focus. The most common designs of origami include swan, star, crane, flowers, box, and dragon. The only thing required for paper modeling is paper. However, one must pay attention to the type of paper they choose. Nowadays, a variety of papers, with different colors, sizes, patterns, and textures are available in the market. If you are an amateur, it's best to use thin and crisp papers. They allow bending and unfolding in a smooth way, and also give a fine finish. Paper Flowers Lily
  • Take a square piece of paper, fold it in to half and again fold the half folded paper into half. Crease the paper well and then unfold it.
  • Turn the colored side down and fold it diagonally in both directions; crease it well and unfold again.
  • Now, hold the paper from the middle crease line, and take both the center points toward the bottom center line.
  • Flatten the paper and you will have a triangular piece (known as water-bomb base).
  • Fold and then unfold the top triangle of the water-bomb base up to the center. Now, open and flatten the triangle using the crease line.
  • Repeat the above step on all four sides of the flaps of the base and you will be left with a diamond shape.
  • Fold the entire diamond in half and then unfold. Following the creases made in the above two steps, raise the bottom pint of the paper on the uppermost layer.
  • Now, repeat the above two steps on the remaining sides, and fold the triangles down on each side.
  • Turn the entire structure upside down, in such a way that the open part is at the top.
  • Now, fold the outer flaps of all four sides toward the center and flatten them.
  • Finally, you will be able to see the flower petals, which can be folded using a pen to get a more natural look.
Rose
  • If you want to make a red rose, cut three pieces of a red-colored square paper in different sizes.
  • The second paper should be three-fourths of the length of the first one, and the third paper should be three-fourths of the length of the second.
  • For leaves, pick a green paper (same as the size of the largest red piece).
  • Fold the right corner of the base to the center-line and then unfold. Each of the red pieces have to be folded in the same way.
  • Fold the edge up to the crease mark. Fold that corner again.
  • Repeat the previous step on the left corner, as well as on the two corners on the back of the piece.
  • Fold the right edge to the left and repeat the step on the other side as well.
  • Carefully, open up the piece with your fingers. Repeat the entire procedure with the other two pieces.
  • Now, take the green paper and make an origami lily (as explained above).
  • Nest the rose petal formed inside each other and place the lily at the bottom, forming the mini leaves or the calyx of the rose.
  • If required, you can use a few spots of glue to hold the parts together.
  • Your origami rose is ready.
Tulip
  • Fold one edge of the paper back. Crease the other side of the paper with your fingers to form a square shape, and firmly press the edge of the paper.
  • Slowly and carefully pull the two opposite diagonals from the center-line. You will get a small square shaped structure.
  • Press the opposite sides again to form an arrow, pointing towards the open side of the paper. Repeat the step on both sides.
  • Stretch the paper on one side, up and then back, and fold the open end of the paper to create a diamond shape.
  • Repeat the step on both sides of the paper, and turn it 180 degrees.
  • Fold the edges of the bottom to both the sides.
  • Now, with the help of a pen, move the petals down to give a natural look to the tulip.
These step-by-step guidelines will help you make origami flowers effortlessly. All you need to do is follow the steps carefully. Paper models can make a great gift for someone, as well as a beautiful decoration for your room. So what are you waiting for! Collect some colorful papers and get going. Have fun!
