Did You Know? » Angelina Jolie made her big screen debut as a child actor in her father Jon Voight's film, Lookin' to Get Out (1982). » Her first film as a director was 2011's In the Land of Blood and Honey, based on the Bosnian War.
Angelina Jolie's fans have every reason to rejoice at the moment; though not for long. Her latest outing as Disney's Maleficent has received mostly positive reviews, and garnered record openings all around the world. With her star power being at an all-time high at the moment, it is being reported that Ms Jolie is in talks to star in a film based on the life and times of Egyptian queen Cleopatra. Hopeful of landing a coveted role such as this, Jolie is intent on giving it her all to make it the most outstanding performance of her career. That done, she hinted at bidding goodbye to acting, saying, "It's one of those that you think maybe that's the one you put everything into and that's where you end it, that's where you finish - in a great way. What could you do beyond that one?" While she plans to move on to direction and investing more time in her humanitarian efforts, Jolie's fans are sure to express their disappointment at her decision. From being regarded as one of the world's most beautiful women, she has proved her mettle as a powerful performer, be it as the vulnerable Gia or the feisty Lara Croft. We give you 10 of the best Angelina Jolie movies to watch, besides Maleficent, of course. *Note: These movies are in no particular order.
Gia
Release date: January 31, 1998
Angelina Jolie burst into spotlight with a thoroughly sensitive performance in this made-for-television movie. The film was based on the life of supermodel Gia Carangi, who died at the age of 26 from AIDS-related complications. Angelina brought out Gia's fresh-faced beauty, combining it with the hint of defiance and sadness, and performed brilliantly as the top model succumbing to the drudgery and despair of addiction. Jolie's performance fetched her a Golden Globe and a SAG Award.

The Bone Collector
Release date: November 5, 1999
The Bone Collector made for an interesting whodunit, with quite a bit of gore in it. The storyline was gripping, with Jolie playing a police officer haunted by her father's suicide, who is instrumental in helping Denzel Washington's character track down a serial killer.
Girl, Interrupted

Girl, Interrupted was marketed as a comeback vehicle of sorts for Winona Ryder. Mr. & Mrs. Smith

In what was to be the precursor for the Brangelina revolution, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt lit up the big screen with their scorching chemistry in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Beowulf
Release date: November 16, 2007
Playing the antagonist in a fantasy epic was fun, according to Jolie. And although her role as Grendel's mother was secondary to the plot, she did make for one good-looking reptilian woman. Describing her first impressions about the character, she said, "... I was told I was going to be a lizard. Then I was brought into a room with Bob (director Robert Zemeckis), and a bunch of pictures and examples, and he showed me this picture of a woman half painted gold, and then a lizard. And, I've got kids and I thought 'That's great. That's so bizarre. I'm going to be this crazy reptilian person and creature.'"
Wanted

Changeling
Release date: October 31, 2008
Based on the Wineville Chicken Coop Murders of 1926, Changeling saw another sterling dramatic performance from Jolie. The film was directed by Clint Eastwood, who managed to extract a fine performance from his lead actress. Jolie received the Best Actress nomination at the BAFTA, Golden Globes, SAG, and Academy Awards.
Salt
Release date: July 23, 2010
This action-packed spy thriller was originally written with a male protagonist in mind, but the entire script was reworked, following Angelina Jolie's casting as the wronged CIA agent, Evelyn Salt. While the film received mixed reviews, Jolie's performance gained appreciation from all quarters, admiring her solid action scenes. Empire magazine gave her performance the thumbs up saying, "When it comes to selling incredible, crazy, death-defying antics, Jolie has few peers in the action business."
