Lisinopril Dosage

Lisinopril is a drug used for the treatment of many cardiovascular and blood pressure ailments. Its dosage is prescribed by a doctor according to the requirement of the individual, after reviewing his medical history.

The enzyme used for mediating extracellular volume of blood plasma, lymph, and interstitial fluid is known as angiotensin I - converting enzyme (ACE). This enzyme is secreted by pulmonary and renal endothelial cells of the body. However, an excessive enzyme secretion may prove perilous to heart health. In such cases, lisinopril is prescribed. Lisinopril is basically a group of ACE inhibitors used for the treatment of hypertension and congestive heart failure. This is one of the common prescription drugs used for regulating blood pressure. Dosage is prescribed depending on age, medical condition, and medications currently being taken. For Hypertension High blood pressure is caused when systemic arterial blood flow is more than normal. People with high blood pressure are prescribed lisinopril, about 10 mg, to be consumed daily. Also, considering its side effects, the dosage may be increased or decreased. A normal dosage can range between 20 - 40 mg. However, the effects are seen on a gradual level only. People taking diuretics will be asked to stop the same, before consuming lisinopril. And if the diuretic intake is not stoppable for medical reasons, then the doctor may ask to start with a low dosage of about 5 mg. For Congestive Heart Failure For cardiovascular ailments like congestive heart failure, the recommended dosage is 5 mg, daily. With the effects being piecemeal, the health care provider may increase the dosage by 10 mg. Besides, it has also been approved alongside diuretics and digoxin. In case of liver/kidney/heart failure, dosage may be decreased to 2.5 mg, daily. Post heart attack, this medication has shown to increase survival chances for patients. In such case, the starting dosage is 5 mg. The dosage can be repeated as 5 mg in next 24 hours, and then 10 mg in following 48 hours. It can be continued for about 6 weeks.
