Sometimes, out of love and affection or ignorance, many people tend to feed their baby with lots of food, which can lead to vomiting. If it happens rarely, then it is not a cause of worry. A bit of puking after feeding is common amongst most infants. They tend to puke after eating if the food is heavy and they are unable to digest it. At times, they tend to spit out the food if they do not like it or are not willing to eat it. Reflux and projectile vomiting are common among infants. Let us know more about these two kinds of vomit in the following passages. ☁ Reflux Vomiting When the valve present at the top of the stomach opens accidentally, then the matter present in the stomach comes slowly back up into the esophagus thus leading to vomiting. ☁ Projectile Vomiting When the content present in the stomach comes out via the mouth forcefully, then it is termed as projectile vomiting. Probable Causes ☞ Gastroenteritis is one of the reasons that can cause puking in infants. ☞ Also, feeding the baby with heavy and excess food can cause him/her to throw up. Hence, ensure that you feed the baby with light baby food. ☞ If the baby is suffering from any other medical condition, then there are chances of throwing up. ☞ Eating food infected with bacteria and virus can also lead to such a condition. This may cause food poisoning that can make the baby suffer from diarrhea along with puking. ☞ If the food habits of the baby are changed all of a sudden, then also there are chances of puking. ☞ Excess consumption of medicines can also give rise to such a condition. Treatment Options ☞ Feed the baby with easily-digestible food. Divide the food into small portions and then feed. ☞ The baby should be well-hydrated, hence make sure that you feed him/her with enough fluids. Also, allow the baby to take adequate rest. ☞ Take proper care to keep your baby away from any kind of disorder. If the infant is vomiting continuously after eating any kind of food, then it is a serious matter, therefore, opt for an appropriate treatment at the earliest. ☞ Also, if you observe blood or bile in the vomit, then it is a matter of concern. Since a baby's digestive system is weak, do not feed him/her with spicy food. It is better to avoid fried foods as well. The problem of puking in infants should be treated as early as possible, as it might affect the baby's health. Due to vomiting, the baby will not be able to gain enough weight. Also, since the ingested food is coming out, the baby is deprived of nutrients required for proper growth and development. Puking also leaves the infant irritated and since he/she lacks the energy, there will be very little interest to either work or play. Seek the advice of a pediatrician to know what to feed and what not to feed the baby.
