Steps:
  • Make a list of all the required materials and keep them in a large tool box so you don't lose any of them.
  • Remove all the movable items in the room like furniture, beds, and wall decorations so they don't come in the way. Cover up the furniture you can't move with the plastic sheath or newspaper.
  • After the room is completely empty, remove the unnecessary protrusions like old paint drips or nails with sandpaper. Fill the holes up and then flatten the bumps with sandpaper again.
  • You can either remove or cover up all the hardware like door knobs, handles, hinges, electrical outlets, electrical switch covers, smoke detectors, and doorbells as well.
  • You also need to make sure that your room is dust free as well as free from particles of sandpaper. These tend to settle on wet paint leaving bumps and marks.
  • Remove mildew and mold with a mixture of bleach and water. Then wash with water again and dry with a blow dryer, so it doesn't grow back. You can also use a primer which is resistant to all these defects.
  • Clean the surface of the walls if they have spiders, cobwebs, dust, or any other abnormalities like grease and old paint patches.
  • Choose the colors carefully and decide which ones you want on the walls and ceilings. Read the instructions on the paint cans so that you don't make any mistakes, and apply the paint with your brushes and rollers.
  • Paint the ceiling then the walls, baseboard trim, door, and door trim. When you are done painting these main surfaces, let the paint dry and then you can add some drawings or patterns over the base coats to make it more attractive. Don't forget to paint the moldings in separate colors to make them noticeable. These will be your finishing touches.
  • Let the painted room dry and set for about a day or two and then move in the furniture back.
