How to Make White Sauce
Also known as Béchamel sauce, this basic white sauce is the starting point for other classic sauces. Learn how to make this sauce with only a few, simple ingredients.
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons margarine
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cube chicken bouillon, crumbled
- 1½ cups boiling water
- 1 cup 2% milk
- Ground white pepper, to taste
- In a thick bottom pan, melt butter and margarine over medium-low heat.
- Add chicken bouillon and flour, and keep whisking continuously.
- After about 5 minutes, the flour will have turned slightly brown.
- Now, add water to prepare the roux.
- As you stir, add milk and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes till the sauce thickens.
- Before serving, add ground white pepper.

- In a pan, melt butter over medium-low heat so that you do not burn itr.
- After the butter melts, add flour and salt, and stir continuously so it doesn't stick to the pan.
- Once the flour is cooked, add milk to the mixture to prepare the roux.
- As you continue to stir, the sauce will thicken.
- If the sauce has not reached the desired consistency, continue to stir.
- Remove the sauce from heat and spread it on your pizza.
