How to Make a Triangular Prism Out of Paper
Why would you want to make a triangular prism? Well, it is fun to make one and can be used as a home decor item. To learn how to make a triangular prism out of paper, read on...
- Card stock paper (in the color of your choice)
- Stronghold glue
- Pair of sharp scissors
- HB pencil
- Ruler
- Bonefolder
- Cut out a rectangular shape on the card stock paper measuring 12 inches by 4 inches.
- Place this paper on your work table so that the shorter edges are aligned at the top and the bottom.
- Now mark ¼th inch on the top and bottom edges of the paper with the help of a ruler and pencil. Double check to make sure that the measurements are accurate.
- Divide the remaining space of the paper (i.e., the central portion of the paper baring the top and bottom tabs) into three equal columns, by measuring it with a ruler.
- Next, divide the paper again into three equal rows. Mark them with the help of a ruler and pencil.
- You will be left with two top and bottom tabs, and 9 squares of equal area.
- Mark the midpoint of the outer squares of the middle row, with a ruler and pencil. To mark the midpoint, all you need to do is draw two diagonal lines on both the outer squares. The point where the lines will intersect is the midpoint of the square.
- Once you have marked the midpoint of the squares, your next step is to draw a straight line from the top left corner of the middle square of the middle row up to the midpoint of the outer left square of the middle row.
- Draw another straight line from the bottom left corner of the middle square of the middle row to the midpoint of the outer left square of the middle row.
- You will be left with a triangle shape on the left square. Now, repeat the last two steps on the middle square of the right column.
- Draw two dotted lines, ¼th inch parallel to the middle column on both sides. The dotted lines should be drawn outside the middle column.
- Draw tapered ends on the top and the bottom edges of the middle column, and crease the tabs carefully with a bonefolder.
- Now, cut out the middle column of the paper, including the outline of the tabs and the triangles.
- If you have followed all the steps given above carefully, then you will be left with a rectangular piece of paper with two triangular shapes in the middle.
- To get the precise shape of a triangular prism, fold the two squares (top and bottom) upwards. Next, fold the two triangles on left and the right side upwards. Make sure that the folds are crisp.
- Bend all the tabs inwards. Apply glue on the outer side of the tabs to the inside of each side of the prism. Allow the glue to dry and that's it, your triangular prism is ready!
