What to Wear to a Nursing Interview If you are an aspiring nursing candidate, then you must portray certain qualities which are a quintessential part of this profession. Nursing job is a responsible job, hence the candidates must exude professionalism through their attire. Women The general rule of thumb is that you should dress better than what is required for your job profile. In this case, you will be wearing scrubs to work. Hence, you may wrongly assume that a pair of jeans and a T-shirt is fine for an interview. However, one must note that nurses are professionals, and given a choice are expected to dress like any other professional in a business environment. Women should preferably wear dress pants, slacks, trousers or a knee length skirt for an interview. Stick to neutral colors such as black, navy, brown, beige, gray etc. While you cannot go wrong with a crisp white collared button down shirt, you can experiment a 'little' with the fabric and color of your blouse. The pattern and style of the blouse should be kept very simple. You can also team a knee length skirt and blouse with a smart vest. You may also throw a jacket or a blazer, if it's not too much for you. Wearing a business suit is another interesting option, in case you are applying for a large, reputed hospital. Apart from the attire, also pay attention to other grooming details. Tie your hair in a bun, ponytail or any other updo. If you must keep it down, then make sure it stays away from your face. The facility you will be working in, would not allow for fragrances as they irritate ailing people. Men Men can wear slacks, formal trousers and a full sleeved button down shirt with a tie. Although, there is no need to go for a business suit, you may consider a blazer for a more professional look. Stick to neutral colors for your blazer and trousers. Pastel colors are considered appropriate for formal shirts. Invest in a decent pair of formal shoes such as Oxfords. Men too should pay attention to the grooming part. A neat and clean look is a must for men. Wash your hair and part them neatly. If you must keep a beard, make sure you trim it well. Wear a good quality belt and try to match it with your shoes. Overdressing is not recommended for a job such as nursing. However, under-dressing may kill your chances of getting shortlisted altogether.
