Jog Falls is created by Sharavathi river, and has become a major tourist attraction, especially in the monsoons. The rainforest around the waterfall is lush green and beautiful. The fall is located near the border of Karnataka and Goa, two famous states of India. This waterfall is formed by Mandovi River, and during the monsoon season the falls are transformed into one of the most powerful falls in the country. It is surrounded by a deciduous forest which is home to many species of birds, insects, plants and animals. According to legends, after Christianity had been declared as the official religion of the state, the pagan chieftain Thorgeir threw the wooden images and sculptures of the Pagan Gods into the waterfall.
