John Lennon was ranked as the 5th greatest singer of all time by the Rolling Stone magazine in the year 2008, and voted 8th in the 2002 BBC poll on the 100 Greatest Britons.
One of the founding members of the rock band Beatles, John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940. He had a very successful writing partnership with Paul McCartney, another member of the Beatles. The Beatles were so popular in the 1960s that the phenomena was called Beatlemania. After a very successful run, John announced his departure from the group on September 20, 1969. He married Yoko Ono in 1969 and changed his name to John Ono Lennon. His first solo debut album "John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band" released in the year 1970. It was highly praised and critically acclaimed.
John Lennon was known for his rebellious nature and bitter wit. His quotes about peace and happiness are beautiful and meaningful. He always used his music to spread the message of peace. Some of his songs were used as anthems during the Vietnam War. He met with a tragic end at a very young age, but his music and thoughts still continue to inspire many.
