Expensive Hobbies

Expensive hobbies are a delight, but they sure can burn a hole in your pocket. Take a look at some such hobbies mentioned below, which can't really be called 'hobbies'.

When you think about hobbies, what comes to your mind? Surely not something that would be more difficult to maintain than your daily routine! Popular hobbies are activities that one indulges in when you want to divert your mind from regular work, stress, and daily tensions. They are things that you like to do for yourself and which make you happy, making you believe in the goodness of life. But, when these hobbies turn out to be those which might make you more tense because of their scorching expenses, I don't think they can be named as hobbies! Apart from the fact that they might just end up being the cause of stress in life, there are people who love indulging in them. Still. it doesn't hurt to at least know what are some of the hobbies, that are a perk only to those who can afford them. Other than reading, painting, collecting coins and stamps, and fishing, there are some outdoor hobbies which come with a heavy price tag! These are however the luxuries for the wealthy, as the common man can't quite fit them in his budget. Horse Riding Doesn't it sound expensive already? Well, horseback riding has to be number one on this list. Even though you don't need to purchase a horse for this purpose, which costs more than $10,000, learning how to ride it, itself costs a bomb! However, even if you invest in buying the horse, maintaining it is another responsibility which doesn't come any close to petting a dog. Buying a place for it to live, feeding it, hiring someone to take care of it and groom it, and then spending a good sum on horse riding supplies (saddles, riding gear, training, shoeing, trailer, etc.) are the basic requirements of this hobby. Flying Another one which doesn't miss a spot on this list is recreational flying. Don't even think about taking your kids anywhere near this place, because flying can put your life savings at stake! Even though flying in a plane is one of the most fun things to do, a once-in-a-while experience can be worth it. This is considered as an expensive hobby because if you want to buy a plane, you will need about $112,000 at least, minus the parking budget and airport fees! Renting a plane costs about $150 per hour, which can be a reasonable hobby. Then comes the maintenance part, where you will spend another $15,000 per year for training, flying, and maintaining it. Yachting It is perfectly fine when you just "want to sail". But it could get worse when you "want a sail", because then you would either purchase one or rent it. Now, when we talk about sailing, you can do with a 14 foot sailboat for a reasonable amount. But if we are concentrating on "yachting" which means, you will need a 35 to 40 feet long yacht, and that's where your pocket is at risk! Maintaining a whole yacht with fuel, attendants, maintenance, parking fees, and other settlements is equal to huge money. So, if you want to practice this hobby, I suggest you start doing your overtime sincerely! Sky Diving Parachuting or sky diving takes a lot in training and very little in actually doing. Even though this hobby is not as expensive as the ones mentioned above, you end up spending a few thousand dollars purchasing the gear and supplies. Finding a good school which teaches you this ultimate air adventure sport can also be costly. Sky diving fees and paying for the hours could cost you another hundred dollars, which you can otherwise spend on useful things. Antique Cars Collection Many young men spend their entire lives practicing this hobby and also end up spending millions on it. Collecting vintage classic cars requires you to invest time, money, energy, and a lot of will power! Collecting very old antique car models and maintaining them at your own risk is a heavy job which needs patience, and of course hats off to those who are successful in this. It is a fascinating hobby but once again meant for people who are passionate about it. Scuba Diving If you are an ocean lover with lots of spare money to spend, then this hobby is definitely for you! Scuba diving is very exciting and gives you a chance to explore the depths of the ocean, but costs you big bucks. Like other adventure hobbies, scuba diving needs gear and supplies which are itself expensive and you will need training as well. Thus, if you are ready to spend a good amount in the sea, go swimming!! Extreme Sports This includes practicing any kind of extreme sports or adventure sports. If you practice any of these hobbies, there are many expenses that you have to take care of. Paragliding is one such hobby which is very commonly taken up by many people. Skiing, even though not considered as a hobby, is practiced by a number of snow adventure fans. River rafting, another adventure sport is also expensive. Hence, if you are a fan of these extreme sports, make sure you have a full saving account. Some other expensive yet fun hobbies can be:
  • Model Trains Collecting
  • Filmmaking
  • Photography
  • Traveling and Vacations
  • Playing Golf
  • Shopping
  • Collecting Sports Souvenirs
  • Falconry
Decided to stick to reading, playing and listening to music, and probably just collecting wooden toys, huh?!
