Easy Science Fair Projects for 6th Grade

Are you looking for some easy science fair projects for 6th grade? Then your search ends here, as we have some of the easiest and fun science fair projects for middle school kids.

Science fairs are the best time when we can enjoy, study, and learn many things. As a 6th grader, I was very enthusiastic about the science fair, as we not only got to work on something creative but also loved watching different ideas of fellow classmates. We used to have exhibitions for the entire school, and watching some amazing experiments by the seniors and juniors was an outstanding experience. Our class teacher always told us what type of experiments we should take and how to perform them. The most important thing she used to tell was to select the one which we can understand, regardless of how easy or difficult it was. Clarity of the concept is a must. If you prepare a project with lots of complications, many data reports, a complicated model, a confusing graph, and a long explanation, then definitely the jury will have to put a lot of efforts to find out the concept behind the experiment. Whereas, if you take a simple experiment with a clear concept, a simple analysis with an informative explanation, then you are sure to be more confident and clear about your project. To help you out with this, we have some of the 6th grade science fair project ideas that will help you to select one according to your wish. Does an egg sink or float in water if the density of water changes? This is an interesting experiment for 6th graders. It requires very few common things which are easily available. So, let's check out the experiment. Things Required:
  • 2 eggs
  • Sugar
  • Salt
  • 2 large glass jars
  • Water
Method: Take the jars and fill them with water. Now, place one egg in each jar and observe what happens. Now add a few tablespoons of sugar in one jar and salt in another. Again observe the changes and note them down. Explain the concept, experiment, and conclusion. Compare the results, or you can also make a comparison table which will be enough to explain the experiment. How does a volcano erupt? This is one of the most popular projects. It will include the volcano model, as well as show an actual volcanic eruption. Things Required:
  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar
  • Clay/play dough
  • Food coloring (red)
  • Hard cardboard or plywood
  • Plastic funnel
  • Plastic water bottle
Method: Take all the required material and start with the project. Take the hard cardboard or the plywood and make boundaries so as to stop the overflow of the fluid at the time of the volcanic eruption. Now, take the plastic funnel in the middle of the plywood so that its wide mouth remains towards the plywood. Stick it firmly with the help of adhesive or tapes. The small openings on the top will become your crater. Now, it's time to give this funnel a shape of the volcano. Put clay or play dough all around the funnel and make a mountain, but do not close the top opening of the funnel. Now comes the part of the volcanic eruption. Mix approximately 7-8 drops of detergent with a pinch of red color. Mix this solution in about 500 ml of warm water. Now, pour this inside the funnel and fill it about ⅔rd. Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda in the same solution. Now, whenever you want to show the volcanic eruption you can just add vinegar from the side of the crater. As soon as the reaction between the baking soda and vinegar takes place inside the mix, the volcano will erupt. Do extreme fluctuations in climate affect the quality of rocks? The fluctuation in climate affects rocks. The water is soaked or absorbed by the rock in a liquid form, and when it is frozen the water molecules expand. This is the reason behind the breaking of rocks and rock slides. The experiment will show how the rocks get susceptible to breaking and what type of rocks are affected the most. Things Required:
  • Different types of rocks like granite, limestone, and sandstone
  • A plastic dish
  • Water
Method: Take water in a plastic dish and place all the rock samples inside the container. Now, place this inside the fridge and take them out when the water freezes. Keep it in normal room temperature and let it thaw. Once it becomes liquid, again place it inside the fridge. Repeat the process 3-4 times and then observe which stone or rock was affected the most. Make a table which consists of the names of different rocks and their condition before and after the experiment is completed. You may also relate this experiment with the breaking down of huge mountains by the effect of natural fluctuation of climate. List of Projects

What is the reason behind sweating? This is actually a biology project. Sweating is a natural process that is conducted by our body to keep itself cool. The small sweat glands present on our skin's surface excrete water droplets, which come to the skin's surface and evaporate with the air. This cools down the body. Get a detailed description of this cooling down process of the body and make a project out of it.
