Easy Science Fair Project Experiments

So, the science fair in your school is round the corner and you are looking for some easy science fair projects experiments. This article provides you with some fun ideas.

When it comes to science fair projects, many children seem to get confused, and do not know what kind of projects or experiments to choose from. Basically, there are various branches of science such as chemistry, physics, biology, microbiology, environmental science, biochemistry, etc. So, first decide the area of your interest to make a choice. Here are a few ideas that you can use. » Saturation Point Experiment Saturation point occurs when a substance can no longer dissolve in a solution at a given temperature. To conduct this experiment, follow the given procedure. Procedure:
  1. Take a saucepan, and pour 400 ml water in it.
  2. Add a pinch of sugar to water, and stir the water well.
  3. Repeat this process several times.
  4. You would notice that the sugar gets dissolved very easily initially. However, the dissolving process becomes slow, and, at a certain point, the sugar stops dissolving in water completely, irrespective of stirring hard.
  5. This is the saturation point of the water.
  6. You can also experiment how temperature can change the saturation point of a solution or substance.
  7. To do this, you can heat the mixture and you will see the sugar dissolves much easily as the temperature of the water increases.
» Photo Tropism Experiment This experiment allows you to see the relationship between plant growth and sunlight. Procedure:
  1. First, take a vase and plant some seedlings in it.
  2. Now, water it regularly, and keep it in the sunlight.
  3. Once the plant grows a little, keep it in a dark room, but continue watering it.
  4. After a few days, you will see that the plant has bent in the direction of the light.
  5. You will also see that the height of the plant has increased.
  6. To further study, how important is the light for a plant to survive, keep it in the completely dark room to deprive the plant from getting the sunlight.
  7. After few days you will notice that the plant is dead.
» Capillary Action Experiment Capillary action is the ability of liquid to flow against gravity. In this action, the liquid rises in a narrow space, such as thin tubes. To conduct this experiment you will need celery stalks, food colors, and water. Procedure:
  1. Fill a glass with water.
  2. Now add the color and stir it well, so that the color mixes well with water.
  3. Now take the celery stalks, and place them in water vertically.
  4. After a few seconds, you will observe that the water is being absorbed by the celery, and is rising up slowly. This happens due to the effect of capillary action.
  5. It occurs due to the intermolecular attractive forces between the liquid and solid surrounding surfaces.
» Artificial Fruit Ripening Experiment This experiment shows the relationship between ethylene and fruit ripening process. For this experiment, you will need ethylene gas and some raw fruits. To conduct this experiment, follow the given instructions. Procedure:
  1. Get some raw fruits, say apples or bananas.
  2. Take two baskets, and put the same number of fruits in them.
  3. Say, two to three apples in each basket.
  4. Now, spray ethylene gas on one of the baskets and label it.
  5. Keep the two baskets separately for around 24 hours.
  6. Check how much the fruits have ripened.
  7. You will observe that the fruits sprayed with ethylene are more ripened, than those which weren't sprayed.
  8. It shows that ethylene speeds up the process of ripening in fruits.
Make sure that you understand the experiments, and the whole science behind the phenomenon you are explaining through the experiment. So go ahead and impress your teachers and friends. Best of luck!
