11 Ways to Store Your Shoes

Let's all just accept the fact that we, as women, though are efficient and have immense strength in many walks of life, still go weak in the knees when it comes to shoes! We buy them, but we neglect how we store them. Here's a peek into the shoe storage ordeals (with solutions to them) of a regular woman.

Imelda R. Marcos, an ex-first lady of the Philippines, is said to have owned the most number of shoes―a whopping 2700+! Wonder how she stored them, huh?
Shoes! Next to diamonds, a woman's best friend ... with a twist. She's never satisfied with how many she has. It doesn't matter if she bought a pair just last week, if she sees her dream sandals in a store window, nothing can stop her from buying it. Try! And then when she gets home, tries on her new shoes, and has decided on which outfit she's going to wear to work with it the next day (after sending a picture of the shoes to all her girlfriends, and Instagramming the life out of it, of course), she drags her feet to 'that area' where she stores her never-ending collection of shoes. She's filled with a sense of foreboding as she approaches the huge pile. She sighs as she places her new box ever so delicately next to the mountain, knowing that soon this new pair too will become one with the labyrinth that is her shoe collection. Try as we may, we simply cannot deny the mess that our shoe lives are in. We promise ourselves that the one we bought today will be the last for the week, but give in to temptation quicker than we can say the word 'shoe'. As a result, the way we store our shoes is in such dire straits that we have finally resorted to the Internet to guide us on how we should preserve our precious footwear. As usual, it never fails us. At Buzzle, we have for you clever shoe storage solutions that you'll absolutely love!
Good 'ol Shoe Boxes
A nifty way to store your shoes, this one. Here's what you do.
  • Fancify old shoe boxes and place the shoes inside.
  • Click a picture of the pair and paste it on front of the box.
  • Never, ever be confused about which one is in which box again.
Empty, Unused Suitcases
There are two things that can take up too much spaces―empty suitcases and heaps of shoes. Kill two birds with one stone. Store your shoes in empty suitcases and keep them accessible. Make sure you line the bottom of the suitcase with either paper or old fabric, to prevent it from getting dirty. Also, ensure that you don't stuff too many shoes in one suitcase, else you'll just be going around in circles.
The Closet, of Course!
Tired of getting late to work every day 'cos you cannot decide what to wear? On your day off, plan an entire week's attire and keep the shoes that you're most likely to wear (of course you can change your mind; see how understanding we are!) with an outfit right below it in the closet. This way, more than half your look is complete in a jiffy, and it makes great storage sense too!
Ever-faithful Organizers
Organizers are the best thing to have happened to women. Not only can you store your clothes, you can use this portable wonder to keep your shoes too! Just drag it to the mirror, perfect your look, and put it back where you found it!
Watch Your Step(s)
What a wonderful world, with houses that have indoor stairwells, isn't it? Use the stairs to store your shoes. This way, you can easily keep count as well. It has another use too. Frustrated with guests leaving their shoes all around the house? Have them take off their shoes each on a step of your flight. They'll never lose them, and they'll leave that much sooner.
A Pedestal for the Pretties Please
You adore your shoes. Why be ashamed about it? Show the world you mean business when it comes to them. Instead of hiding it in some dark recess that no one can see, flaunt your footwear on wall-mounted pedestals.
Wardrobe to the Rescue. Always.
Whoever said wardrobes are meant only for clothes! With the varying number and sizes of shelves that wardrobes have these days, you can easily reserve a couple of shelves for your shoes alone. *Psst: Get a whole wardrobe just for your shoes. Make your dream come true!
Load Up Your Ladder
Have an old wooden stepladder in the basement/garage? Get it out. Clean it up. Give it a distressed look by scraping it with sandpaper and applying a coat of varnish. Voila! You have a pretty shoe stand!
Hang 'em Away
Give your prettiest/funkiest/glitziest shoes a place of honor. Make them more than just something that adorns your tootsies. A wooden plank and some door knobs are all you need to create a storage space that doubles up as a talking point in any room. Hang your shoes there and let them make a statement without saying a word.
Multipurpose Solutions Unlimited
Know those regular multipurpose storage racks that you can buy dirt cheap? Instead of storing multi-whatevers, buy a couple of them and store your shoe collection. Each pair will get its very own shelf. How cool is that!?
Classic Shoe Rack
It's true. When all else fails, you can resort to a tried and tested method of shoe storage―a shoe rack. It may be simple and not very pleasing to the eye, but it gets the job done. No one can argue with the practicality it brings. You'll never have enough shoes ladies, no matter how many storage options you try. The trick is to be strong, and discard the ones you don't wear anymore (be honest with yourself). This is the only way your shoe life is going to begin recuperating from the damage you've unknowingly done. If you're still not convinced, here's a way of looking at it: the more shoes you discard, the more you can buy to replenish your collection!
